LS430 - Brake Pad Wear Sensor
I just got a 2001 LS430 - When I got it the break wear indicator was on. I had a mechanic change the break pads. They told me the pads were so low that it damaged the wear sensors so that the indicator is still on. The mechanic told me the sensors can only be purchased from lexus and will cost around 200 for both of them plus labor. I have found the sensors at parts.com for $100 for both.
Are these sensors straight forward to install? Can anyone explain to me how I could install these sensors?

It's not an "electronic" or precision part where getting OEM will make a difference. It's just an electical wire, inside a plastic casing and when the rotors wears down the casing and cuts into the wire and severes the connection, it triggers the indicator.
You technically can just twist the wires from the bad indicator together to close the circuit again, and then just hang the sensor on the side, but then you don't have a real sensor and so you might end up driving down to your rotors with the worn pads later.

Bringing this thread back from the dead instead of making a new one. So what im gathering is that instead of spending the money on new sensors, it works just as well if i were to repair the severed wire?

I just bought a new sensor for like $8 from Raybestos when I had to replace mine just a few days ago. Everything went in perfect.
The part # was EWS103 for the rear sensor.
Don't get ripped off at the dealership.

I also purchased the sensors on ebay (approximately $8) and they took about 2 minutes to put in.
You will receive 2 sensors and they are both on the passenger side (front and rear)
Good Luck

When one of my brake sensors tripped, I cut off the sensor, stripped enough of the 2 wires to use an electrical twist-on wire connector to unbreak the electrical connection, and tied the cable up out of the way. It is a solid connection and doesn't go off on bumpy roads.
I check my brake pads, calipers, and hoses at every seasonal tire change, so I didn't see any point in paying for a new wear sensor. If you are unable to check your pads regularly, get the cheapest wear sensor you can find - there is absolutely no need to pay a premium - it is just a piece of epoxy with a wire through it, and it "senses" by breaking the wire.
Front right wear sensor part # 47770-50050
Rear right wear sensor part # 47770-50060
Retainer clip part # 47773-50030 (you will need this unless you are very careful taking off the old one, or if you took off the old one several times and weakened the clip)
