The real deal this morning.

Here's my car... Under our first snow storm of the year.

Good question... Mine is a 2004 and it doesn't have it. BUT the winshield might have been replaced.

If available for my year I may even consider having it replaced again for one with deicer.

All you sunbelt dwellers can wipe that silly smirk off your faces right now.

Clublexus suppresses the display of the URL for the "www.T O Y O D I Y.com" parts reference website. Remove the spaces in the URL to use.

From the info on that website, it looks like the Canadian spec LS430 for all model years had the heated windshield -- don't know if it is 100% accurate but it usually is.

Here is what is shown for the Canadian spec 2006 LS430:

56111 GLASS, WINDSHIELD
56101-50210 UCF30..CND; *SERL, T=5.3, GREEN, W(HOT WATER PANEL HEATER)
56101-50290 UCF30..CND; *SERL, T=5.3, GREEN, W(HOT WATER PANEL HEATER & RAIN SENSOR)

Here is what is shown for the U.S. spec 2006 LS430:

56111 GLASS, WINDSHIELD
56101-50310 UCF30..USA; *SERL, T=5.3, GREEN, W(RAIN SENSOR)
56111-50240 UCF30..USA; *SERL, T=5.3, GREEN

Three different part numbers are shown for the Canadian spec 2002 LS430:

56111 GLASS, WINDSHIELD
56101-50210 UCF30..CND; *SERL, T=5.3, GREEN, W(HOT WATER PANEL HEATER)
56101-50220 UCF30..CND; *SERL, T=5.3, GREEN, W(HOT WATER PANEL HEATER & RAIN SENSOR)
56101-50290 UCF30..CND; *SERL, T=5.3, GREEN, W(HOT WATER PANEL HEATER & RAIN SENSOR)

I don't think you can just slap a "water panel heater" windshield on an LS430 that didn't come with one since other related parts are listed.

Holy crap - you actually have to go out in that weather? No way... Its making my feet cold and achy just looking at that picture. If that happened in Dallas they would cancel everything for a week.

That is what my car looked like this morning! We had about 6" of snow last night. Good old chicago weather!

On a side note - do we have heated side view mirrors?

Actually snow is easier to deal with than ice when it comes to wipers. You can just brush the snow from the windshield. The wipers can actually help if its just a small amount. Now ice on the other hand is a real beast to deal with because it requires you to do a lil banging and scrapping and we all know that is somewhat of a sensitive area along the bottom of the windshield on the LS430. And yes JBLover, outside mirrors are heated when the rear defrost function is used i believe.

You might be right... I knew and noticed they were heated but I thought it was when the FRONT defrost is on.

Another fun experiment for tomorrow...

So for this "HOT WATER PANEL HEATER" is this a button to press?

Anyone knows how to turn it on?

I only know that on some "older" Lexus vehicles with the wiper de-icer feature, it worked in conjunction with the rear window/exterior mirror defrosters.

For example, here is what is in the 2006 RX400h owners manual:

"The thin heater wires on the inside of the rear window and the
heater panels in the outside rear view mirrors will quickly clear
the surface. An indicator light is on when the defogger is
operating.
Vehicles sold in Canada — The windshield wiper de-icers are
equipped to deice the windshield wiper blades by operating
simultaneously with defogger.
The system will automatically shut off when the defogger has
operated about 15 minutes."

According to the U.S. Lexus website, the only current U.S. spec Lexus vehicles with the wiper de-icer feature are the GX and LX -- see the attached.

I see from various information sources that the wiper de-icer feature is available in some countries on the 2010 RX and 2010 LS -- the wiper de-icer feature on newer Lexus vehicles is no longer tied in with the exterior mirror defroster and there is now a separate button.
