Default question about crank...

I have 2004 LS430 w/ approx 75k miles... Recently it takes longer to start the car. After driving the car, restarting right away is non-issue. Usually I crank bout 2 secs and car starts, now I crank bout 4-5 secs. Doesn't make any weird noises, just takes longer time. BTW, I am using smart Key. Any ideas? Battery or starter or fuel line? Any ideas? Is this kind of common for 04 LS?

I have an 04 with 94K and have not had this happen, it might be the starter is telling you it's about to go.

i have a similar issue but i have noticed that if the car is cold it starts right up, if the car is already warmed up and i turn the car off and then restart it after only being off for a few seconds or a few minutes it takes a lot longer to turn over (start). every morning mine starts right up, but if i've been driving and pull up to a storefront and turn the car off, wait 2 minutes and turn it back on it takes about 2 seconds longer to turn over. really weird. also, i don't think mines is starter related. i had the starter go out on my previous gs and it was a different feeling and issue than this one, for me at least.

my 05 with 44k on the meter has always been a slow starter,, takes a couple seconds to get it going, hot or cold,,

wife's turbo VW bug is almost instant,, just touch that key to start and it fires off,, a big difference between them for starting and driving,,

It's true, the Japanese cars just don't start up as "strong" as the Germans. I've started a few MB and BMWs and they seem to almost start up half crank, while my '04 LS also takes a second or two. Same with RX... just slow crankers.

Hey, I'd rather take a slow crank and smooth run, than quick start and being my mechanics best friend. Maybe there is something to "haste makes waste."

Well, my battery went caput yesterday at 53k.
A day or 2 prior to that, it cranked really slow and was weak.

Threw in a new battery and it turns in 2 cranks......eh..eh vroom

I noticed the slow cranking on all of our Lexus fleet, even our '06 Ultra with 25K and a new battery.

Not sure if everyone is describing (writing) accurately what their issues are, but I have no problem with any "slow cranking." Maybe in the winter time, with a low battery, and cold/thick oil, etc?..but not now.

For me, the engine "cranks" or "turns over" fine when the ignition/key is engaged. It just takes the "key" being held in that position, literally 2-3 seconds, before I can let it go and the engine runs on it's own...

This is about 2x longer "cranking time" than any other vehicle I've owned or driven..aside from the diesel 5-TON 6x6 trucks we had in the Marines, where we'd have to hold the starter switch on for like 5-8 seconds..lol

LOL!! Nope. It's a "5-ton"....2x the capacity of your puny duece n a half!

And omg...driving those in Oki was a TREAT, wasn't it?!..not to mention the steering wheel was on the wrong side-making it even HARDER to drive there, the cars cutting you off, etc! I had to drive many times from MCAS Futenma to Naha on the main North/South highway!...was that highway #17?

I miss Oki so much...
