Default Deleting Mufflers on a 2003 LS430

So I did this and just extended pipes from the resonators back. It sounds very good, not too loud, just enough to get a grin on your face when you take off.

But what could be the problem with removing mufflers? Ah yes, losing low end torque. Not something I had not anticipated since I did the same on the LS400 and had no issues. The top end seems to be outrageous though.

Example, I would sit at a stand still and floor it without traction, it would grab instantly, mumble it's way through first gear, get to about 4,000 RPMs and lurch forward. And its not just feeling, because I have watched the speedometer increase much more rapidly during these RPM's.

So could I have really lost that much Low-End torque? What is weird is that with the Mufflers off without pipes to the rear, the car felt like it had much more power in the low end, and more spread out throughout the power band vs just top end.

I have done it to my 95 LS as well and it did feel like it lost low end torque... did not test out the high end of the car but... seems interesting may go down that route one day!!

The Seat-of-the-Pants Dyno is notoriously inaccurate.

Well I dropped the camera trying to do this, now it's broke - great right? I'll go buy a new one here and record a few. Sounds very nice.

taking out the mufflers will reduce back pressure. Not sure exactly why backpressure increases low end power, but decreasing back pressure will indeed increase top end performance.

This was a common mod on my previous car. To remove a U shaped bend in the exhaust that was put in for the O2 sensor.
