To all who had failed air strut in their UL, is the pass side rear the 1st to go bad?

I purchased my LS430 new in 2006.
1st shock to go out was the R/R at 104,000 miles. I had Lexus dealership replace at a cost of $1500 of which $315.00 was labor.
Same shock went bad at around 275,000 miles. I lived with it for a several weeks, debating to go coil-over or spend another $1500 at the dealership.
So, I bought a used shock and spent 1.5 hours in total to fix the issue.
Vehicle now has 282,000 miles and is again a joy to drive.
The clip that attaches the air line on the replacement shock was missing, so I re-used the one I had. I have limited tools and used 2 small screwdrivers to undo the air line clip.
Get in there and get your hands dirty. If I was able to fixed this, I'm quite sure anyone smart enough to purchase an LS430 could do it

I bought my 2003 LS430UL last fall. Love this car, 58k. I just started to notice the RR sag, it now has 62k. I just read this entire thread and four it very interesting with lots of good info. The one question I have is, where are the hight sensors located on the LS430? And how do you adjust them? I thought I'd try to adjust the sensors before I go and replace the air shocks. Thanks.

You should be able to see oil on outside of the bag if they are leaking. You can remove the rubber cover and zip tie it back on. Look closely for oil / dirt accumulation.
The height sensors are very easy to see once you pull the wheel off. It has the adjustable arm right there and just one bolt to loosen and adjust up or down. You will see it. On my car, which sits evenly the divers side rear sensor is set in a higher position to obtain desired height.
Don't forget to do this procedure on a really flat surface and if the wheels are off the ground don't turn on the car without disabling the air suspension. Also, when parking on uneven ground for a length of time the car will not necessarily settle evenly. This can be deceptive. Make sure to test and calibrate everything on level ground.
