Nice alarm, and that one mile range is what I need. The only thing that I don't understand is why only 4 buttons on the remote? Also the screen on the remote looks like it's from the 80's.
What do you think of this:

i have used that alarm. the shelby one. its an okai alarm but i would go with another one. the reason i say that because it worked most of the time. in terms for autostart. i didnt like the real life range. its because when the alarm is triggered your remote might not pick it up depending on what type of building you are in. sometimes it wouldnt work when i was working and other times it worked fine depending where in the building i was. the alarm doesnt have a anti grind. i wish the alarm was louder and abit more sensitive. it would take the system two tries then the autostart would work. not me trying two times trying to start the autostart if that makes sense. i believe the company that makes the system is autopage.
the remote actually has 5 buttons. there is one for lock, unlock, trunk, and autostart when depressed twice. the fifth button when used in conjunction with other buttons allows you to do other functions. if you hold it down it will light up the screen. one of the functions allows you to see the temp of the car.
im personally looking at python 990 2 way system.

Hi
Alarms are good but have you ever considered one of these as well,
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-BEST-Real-ti...1%7C240%3A1308
You can hide them and hardwire them in and then if you car does get stolen you can find out where it is, no contract or ongoing payments with it either, there are loads on ebay to look at with all different features, just search for "GPS tracker"

That python is nice. When I went to that site's demonstration mode I saw the 1090 model with OLED screen and different remote. Unfortunately it's discontinued, but Viper 7900 is exactly the same:

i believe the high end two way remote systems have proximity senors. you can always add those on i believe but dont quote me on that. what i want to do is add a dvr system to my alarm now. its only because people ignore the car alarms nowadays. so when my alarm goes off it will record for a duration of time. well thats my next goal for my alarm system. just need to save up for it..

I can't stand the really cheesey sound of the Viper's 514N 6-tone siren. Sounds to me like one of those cheapo aftermarket Wal-mart specials you always hear installed in the likes of Cavaliers and Escorts. Hardly something I'd want connected to my Lexus.

I had an Astrostart put on my Denali and had repeated problems with the unit getting out of sync with the truck computer that it interfaced with. At about 30K miles, it started making clicking noises in the dash when the truck was running. I ended up trading the truck.
I think the ability of the installer is as important as the brand of equipment you pick. I don't know if I'll ever get another aftermarket unit.
