Default averaged 21 mpg on my last two fill up's riding on 20" wheels!

I've changed my driving habits in two ways as recommended by my lexus ls430 owners manual!

1- don't push the gas pedal abruptly from a full stop, let the wheels roll a bit then give the gas a gradual and easy push.

2- time the stops and red lights, ease off on gas pedal and let inertial play it's role as much as possible!!

Nice! My trip computer (which I've cross-checked with a manual calculation on a few tanks full and found to be dead-on accurate) hasn't been reset for a couple thousand miles now. It says 21.9 avg. mpg. That's on large 19" wheels/tires. I think it did a mile or two better on the stock 17's. These cars are pretty amazing in terms of fuel mileage. Well, in terms of just about everything else, too.

I use the same station all the time (last 8 years) and use their same 91.

456 miles traveled, 17.2 gallons. I have been getting that constantly.

You're probably asking the OP, but for me, it's a mix with the "highway" portion being 55 MPH roads where I can drive a decent bit at 55-60 mph, which is great for mileage. Some city driving, stopping for the occasional red light or turn, but no creeping along in heavy, slow traffic. IIRC, the average speed was ~38 MPH.

I typically drive all city on around 40-45 mph roads and average around 19 mpg. If I mix in some highway or turnpike, it is usually around 21-22.

Wow! great MPG's for 20"s. Currently I'm getting 22.3 mixed hwy/city on 16's with very conservative driving and neutral rolling on downhill freeway driving. Hawaii's hwy spped limit is 55 in most places and I drive within +5 mph within that because of too many speed traps set up night and day. If I can squeeze out 21 MPG's on 19"s I'll be okay with that.

Why are we specifying size of our wheels to mpg? Are we assuming that larger wheels are heavier, therefor get less mpg? I get about 17 to 18mpg via mix city and freeway (though most freeways here are stop and go during rush hour). No real difference between my 20's during summer or 17" stock during winter. Average aggressiveness driving, I've tried grandpa style but that only gains me about 2mpg more so I drive how I like like

It's just good to know that you can still get high MPG's with larger rims. Others who have stock rims may feel that going larger may reduce their MPG's due to larger tires, heavier rims and so on and decide not to go larger and stay within stock size. This is a great thread and great info on what other driving styles and larger rims sizes are getting in miles per gallon. I feel more at ease knowing this information. Just my 2cts.
