Replacement Key for LS430 won't start car
Wierd behavior from my replacement key for my 2002 LS430. I got the key cut, and went through the programming sequence. The key now perfectly opens and closes the doors, and fits and turns in the ignition properly. But it won't start the car. It acts just like the card key when you forget to put the key near the ignition when turning it. The car just doesn't turn over.
Any thoughts?

When I reprogrammed the GS key myself, it wouldn't recognize it the first time.
It did the same thing like yours-it can open/close the doors with the remote, but won't start. AFter trying it again for the 3rd time, it finally worked.
I can't remember exactly, but it's the door lock part that was tricky. I can't remember if you have to use the power door lock switch or the manual
My only advice is to try the program again.
Edit: Oops, I just saw you have the UL, so I don't know if programming it is the same as the one without a smart card.

My 2002 LS430UL doesn't have a smart card, just the typical remote key.

You're definitely in the right track at least since you can use the remote.
It's getting the car to recognize the transponder.
Sorry I can't give you a definite answer-trying to remember this from a couple years ago and haven't searched for the programming instruction.
Here's a quick search from a recent thread in the GS section. See if you can cross check, not even sure if the LS is the same.
Remote Programming
1. Open driver door, keep it open and in the unlocked position (all other doors should be closed)
2. Put original key in ignition and pull out
3. Lock and Unlock the doors 5 times (complete each lock/unlock cycle within 1 second and
entire process in 40 seconds or less)
4. Close the door and open the door
5. Lock and Unlock the doors another 5 times (complete each lock/unlock cycle within 1 second and
entire process in 40 seconds or less)
6. Put the key in the ignition, turn it to "on" and then off (with 1 second) and remove from the ignition.
7. Press and hold transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for at least 1.5 seconds,
and then within 3 seconds; press any transmitter button for at least one second.
8. If within 3 seconds, door locks cycle one time, new transmitter code was accepted. If door locks
cycle 2 times, new transmitter code was not accepted. If code was not accepted retry step 8 again.
