Default Memory Seat and Steering Adjustment Reset?

I own a 2001 LS430 and know how to adjust the seats and steering tilt using the buttons provided. My question is when I set the memory for lets say button #1, I first adjust all my positions that I want and while the car is is P or N and ignition is on, I press and hold down set and them press #1 button to program. The beep goes on and it is set. What I do find is that the steering height is too high and I have to press the #1 button 3 times to get it to the low position that I prefer. Is there a way to clear all programed memory positions for all buttons and start from zero. the seat adjust okay and it's only the tilt steering that seems to have 3 positions in my car.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks, DanozLS430

Everytime you set the memory, the old info goes away. You may have a malfunction - see your Owner's Manual for the exact procedure.

To reset everything, just disconnnect your battery terminals and put them back on.

I tried disconnecting the battery and also resetting the steering and seat adjustment again. The steering still has 3 level positions before it gets to the low position which I prefer. I have to push the #1 button 3 times to get the height I want and have programmed.

Hello all,

I just purchased an 04 LS430 and I am having this exact same issue. Does anyone know of a fix or why I have to press the memory seat button 2-3 times to get the steering wheel to the correct height?

Apologies in advance for reviving this old thread

Thanks the quick response! The manual was actually the first place I looked haha. I followed the instructions exactly as stated and I still get the same problem. I have to press the memory seat position a few times to the the steering wheel to reach the memorized position. I programmed the other memory buttons as well, but that still did not work.

I know, old thread but I have the exact same issue. One thing to note is that my telescoping function no longer works. Only tilt. I wonder if that is related.

Are you sitting in the car, with ignition ON before you press the memory button?
If you do it after opening the door, but before turning the ignition on, it adjusts the seat but not the steering.
The steering should then adjust when you turn ignition to ON.
May also be worth checking if the steering adjust is setup correctly in Techstream.

Otherwise I'd guess that your steering adjust motors are on their way out as the adjust will stop if it encounters too much resistance.
This is a safety feature to stop it ramming the steering wheel through your chest
