Default Need Tech Help with Nav Upgrade

Hi All,

I got great advice in an earlier thread with regard to upgrading to v7.1 but keeping my Lockpick Blue overides (I have an '05 LS430 with Lockpick Blue installed and want to upgrade to the 7.1 Nav and still have auto accept and use nav and bluetooth while driving).

I was told to copy the 7.1 dvd onto my desktop and copy 5.1 onto my desktop and then burn a new dvd using all the 7.1 files except the load.kwl file which I should take from the 5.1.

I just got the new 7.1 gen 4 dvd from the dealer today and before I even completed step 1, I got hung up. I can't copy the dvd!! If I try to make a copy, an error message pops up and if I try to copy it to my desktop, noting happens.

Has anyone else encountered this? Is the dvd copy protectected? Is there anyway around this? Thanks in advance for your help....

I'm amazed there has been no reply to your query. I could not copy the disk either (don't like the idea of having a $260.00 original in the drive...would much rather have a copy with original in a drawer somewhere). I'm not sure what the problem is but if I figure it out, I'll let you know.

The copying is an issue no one really wants to discuss as its a forum banning subject. However, if you own the 7.1 and you want to use a backup (not sure on Lexus' licensing issue) it can be copied pretty simply. The problem that is happening now is that v5.1 loading.kwi file is not compatible with the new v7.1 disk. Some other thread discussed on an other forum here has suggested using v4.1 (v4.2) loading.kwi file with the v7.1 disk and had success.

Air, I agree; however, it seems crazy that only in this world would the licensee disallow a backup copy of original by the owner so that the original could be preserved. Especially since the original is mostly, if not all, data and cost $250.00+.

I also purchased my 7.1 from Sewell for $260.

Mine is a Gen 4 V7.1, but it appears after much trial and error that the 5.1 Loading.kwi file will not work with teh Gen 4 V 7.1 disk!!!! So I have maps now but no ability to enter destinations while moving. I have a copy working, but as I said the 5.1 loading.kwi does not work with the 7.1 maps. Is there a loading.kwi file that does?

Or what is a good solution that anyone has for a bypass of the nav lockout? I have seen some discussion of pulling the unit and cutting some wires or putting in a switch. Any comments on what has worked best for anyone?

After extensive trial and error and burning over 40 Vebatium DVD+R DL. I had no luck either. Tried pretty much every method from replacing files to injecting files into the ISO image. Tried all different loading.kwi files and all failures. mstrange, beaware that some links for downloading the v5.1 loading.kwi file here are for Gen 3 nav, not for our Gen 4's. So over $100 worth of disks later, I'm putting this project on hold till someone can confirm that it can be done.
