Fair price for '01??
I'm looking at a white '01 with Ultra Luxury and only 20,000 miles. Dealer is asking 30k. Is that a fair price? They will throw in a 2007 nav DVD.

The salesman told me the owner is in his 80's and traded it for a new hybrid suv. They also have an '05 in Black Cherry color with 40,000 miles that is "Lexus Certified" but with Modern Luxury group, not UL, for $44k. I'm not sure which to get. Any thoughts on that?

Clean carfax, I assume? Not that it means it's never had any body repair, but still. If it is Certified pre-owned, I'd probably jump on it. Call me a skeptic, but 30k seems pretty low (especially prior to negotiation).

Be careful with completely trusting carfax since a lot of owners & dealers knows not to report some accidents to their insurance to prevent carfax picking it up. A friend of mine purchased a 04 LS430 with 49k miles for what seem to be a deal at only $29,000.00. He ran a carfax report and there was no accidents reported. He later asked me to help him replace a brake light when I discovered it had been in a serious rear end accident; I then inspected the front end and saw evidence of patch work, a new headlight from a junkyard, to include welding spark burns on both the rear and front windshield. I have since suggested that he take it to a different dealer for further inspection to determine if all his airbags are in place, as I suspect the dealer from which he purchased it know it was in an accident which explains the price.

Exactly. The 100K mile warranty (and the alleged 1 billion point Lexus inspection or whatever) is what persuaded me to buy the vehicle. I figured they also wouldn't be eager to CPO/Warranty a car that had been smashed up... but then again.
It was either the used LS430 or a new IS350. Believe it or not, I feel like I made the best decision
