LS430 - removing gold emblems
Hey guys,
I'm about to purchase a 2004 LS430 modern, black/black. The only thing about the car I dislike is the rear gold emblems (horizontal strip, Lexus, ls430, and "L"), and the "L" badge on the front grille is gold.
I understand some of these things are screwed in, so is it at simple as buying the chrome counterpart and swapping them?
I've attached a picture of the rear; in the front, only the L emblem is gold.
TIA

From the photo it looks like you are buying it from a Lexus dealer. Can you make the emblem exchange part of the purchase deal? But if you have to have gold, they look best on a black car. Personally, I would go for black pearl emblems on a black car. I saw black pearl emblems on a black LX470 a few weeks ago and they were very nice and subtle.

The front emblem is screwed in, should be very simple to exchange.
For the rear, your going to need some 3M adhesive remover, fishing line, and lots of patients.
Your going to use the fishing line to release the adhesive from the emblem, then your going to remove the adhesive carefully from the body without scratching the paint, or damaging the clear coat using the adhesive remover. Might be easier to do when its hot outside.
If your interested, you can be extra careful removing them, and then sell them on Ebay. Thats what I did. i bought all new chrome emblem from sewell lexus (Lexus-parts.com) for $68, and sold my old gold ones for $100+ on ebay.
What he said.

thanks for the replies guys!
The dealer is delivering the car on Friday/ Saturday. I've already squeezed him thoroughly in terms of price and some issues with the vehicles (paint touch up, four new tires), so I'd rather leave it at that with them.
I'm deciding between the black pearle and chrome. However, about that horizontal strip on the trunklid that is also gold; I haven't seen that for sale anywhere. Also, if I went through with the swap, I'd need the wheel emblems changed as well ,as they are also gold.
Sparky3 thanks for the offer I'll let you know as soon as I pick up the car. I'm paying for it, but it is really a car for my parents. I have the honda s2k and sc300 so if they like the gold, I might keep it.
In summary, do they sell that chrome horizontal strip across the trunklid?

My vote's for black pearl. I have black pearl and you could search for my pics for an idea of how it would look.

Naa.. medium height, not so young, slight accent but don't remember his hair-do. But he left, I think at some time between October 2006 and Jan 2007. The Tri-County people assigned me a another salesperson to take care of my needs (with regards to this particular car)

The information I got when I bought my 2004 was that the Black Pearl is not available. It is available for the 01-03 from Lexus however they do not exchange with 04-06 since the emblem (L) on the back is bigger for the 2004+ They are available from emblem platers but it is very expensive. I took my gold ones off because they were tired and pitted. I just used needle nosed pliers and pulled them off and replaced them with chrome ones.
