AFS Light Flashing Now
The latest is that the "AFS" light flashes when I first start my '04 LS then goes off. It doesn't do this every time, but intermittently. I am starting to get annoyed:
1. Tranny recall
2. Fuel pump recall
3. Flashing "tire pressure" light now on second set of repair cycle
4. Driver's outside mirror "everted" and had to be replaced
5. Now the AFS thing.
Vehicle is exactly 24 months old with 25,000 miles. What happened to "most reliable vehicle"?

hey man....you will suprised at what the bmw owners put with......this is nothing, couple of 745's had leaky roof where they had to replace the whole interior......mb's usually they go in for tranny problems so what you have listed is practically nothing!!! one of my friends x5 opened the tailgate every time he turned the lights on....they had to replace the whole dash!!

Good point, relative to the German cars. But relative to prior Lexi, this is not amusing.

I've had all of the same issues (with the exception of the AFS proble) plus a couple of others.
My sense is that the 2004 model with the major changes has had more problems than other model years. I know the transmission issue is isolated to the 2004 when they went to the six speed, as is the fuel pump problem. I had the same type of problems when when I bought my 1998 GS400 which was the first year of the major re-design. It had a bunch of issues early on.
You would think that Lexus would do a better job of de-bugging their re-designs so they don't have so many problems. The good news is they get better quickly and their service is second to none.

one also has to take into consideration that today's cars have a lot more gismos than the older models and things do screw up when the technology is untested where no one can predict how things react and hold up to everyday driving.....sure they test things but there is always that margin of error!!!

Advice: Sell it or trade it in on an '05.
