Ok, so I never got an answer about wiring it in series, so I just installed the Polk today using the original connection. Sounds good so far but I have a question. Anyone running a similar 4 ohm sub flawlessly? I've read some posts where people say they shut down after a while, others where people seemed happy. Should I expect it to shut down on me or should it work ok as is? The install was a real pita, hoping not to have to tear into it again if I don't have to.

Thanks again.

A dual voice coil (DVC) sub will have 2 + and 2 - terminals. You wire as illustrated to get the added resistance value.

The Polk I ordered is dual coil, but only one set of terminals.

$288

Well that really didn't fair very well with me so I decided to give Tweeter a call to find out how much another 8" subwoofer would be.

JL W0 = $89 not bad at all! (not great either I'm just comparing prices with the stealer)

Well here are my pics...
Hey xsuperjoex, would you please let me know how you made the terminal connections? I mean after you unsoldered the red and black wires from the ML sub, where did you connect those, which color to positive + and which went to negative - ?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Reviving the thread.
Ok, i have euro president pkg with sunshade and rear a/c as well as power rear seats.
What is the best and most safe way to replace my sub? Without damaging 1k usd sunshade assy and not breaking anything.
Thanks in advance.

My factory ML subwoofer is blown. Looking for a 8" rear deck replacement. Found 2 options with 8ohm.
The Kicker C88 and the Rockford Fosgate P1S8-8
Both are same price. Which would you choose and why?

I will be powering it up with my factory ML amp.

I would bypass the factory amp and get a mono amp so the new sub runs the right amount of power

I replaced my blown ML sub with a Kicker comp 8-ohm and it sounds pretty good. Has a nice amount of bass, although not as "snappy" as the stock ML sub. You can tell its slightly underpowered, but it still sounds better than a crackling, fluttering sub. Thanks to all the info and write-ups on here that helped me with this. I did however have to get creative with mounting the sub with the old ring from the ML sub. Screwing it in wasnt working due to the angles and such, so I had to use zip ties! Don't judge me! lol

I have Rockford Fosgate Punch P1 P1S88 8-Inch 150-Watt Subwoofer - 8 Ohm

I had it in my home theater subwoofer for some time and it sounds great. Now it is back in the box waiting to go in LS whenever original one (now glued) needs complete replacement.

I don't know about the Kicker. Post above says Kicker sounds good but installation was tricky.
