I know I read a thread somewhere talking about the mileage of the LS 430, but darned if I can find it. Anyway, just completed a long round trip from San Jose, CA to Eugene, OR in my new 2005. Average gas mileage 25, peak 26.5. Using 91 or 92 octane. And this was at an average speed of about 75 MPH. I'm impressed. I suppose it might have been close to 30 if I had driven closer to 65.

I got 24.6 mpg (on highway) on my last trip from Sacramento to Los Angeles. Overall I average 20.4 mpg for city/highway driving. For strictly city driving the mileage drops to around 15.7 mpg.

not sure if it's that easy to hit 30 though, i think 26 is very good already

and yes, the v8 on lexus they are really conservative on gas

The sixth gear and also the low Cd 0.26 (0.25 UL) helps alot.
You can easily feel the low drag when you let go of the accelerator and let the car coast at
freeway speeds. The car does not slow down as much as other cars with higher Cd.

On my trip to Vegas, I drove at 70 for a few miles, and I keep seeing the current mpg hovers around 30 mpg.

excellent point there, the low drag is definitely something. it also makes the car quieter too

hey guys, trying to bring this thread back up to life...since the gas prices today are sky-high.

i've been driving around in my new car for a few weeks now...done a few hundred miles, and i checked the computer, my average mileage is 9 mpg !!!

This is what I get from city driving... mostly in queens and manhattan.

anybody here get as bad as me?

I just returned from a 1600 mile road trip in a new 2005 LS430, all on Interstate 35, Texas to Iowa and back. Northbound I averaged 27.5 (slight tailwind) and Southbound I averaged 26.5 (slight headwind)...all on regular gas, 87 octane. I was very pleased with the performance. It is a new car and I was very impressed with the comfort, ride and responsiveness. It replaced a Mercedes E-430 and I'll take the Lexus over the Mercedes anyday.

I Get 22.7mpg On My Everyday Use On Regular Gas--- City / Highway.. Haven't Taken It On Any Long Trip As Yet.. Soon I Will Though To The Florida Keys

I'm getting about 14 mpg city, doing some "spirited" driving. I got 21 mpg on a 300 mile trip doing mostly 95mph. Felt like I was doing 50mph in a regular car. I love my radar detector!!!
I was getting about 10 mpg city when I first got the car. After I got used to the car's power I took it easy.
Just reset the mpg display and take it alittle easier. Also don't let the car idle unnecessarily.

man getting 9mpg you should either re-think about your driving habits or there must be something terribly wrong with your car. i drive a gs400 with pretty high performance mods and even with aggressive driving i get maybe 14mpg

Well, to be really honest, there was only one time when i really pushed the car hard, doing fast acceleration and stops ....

But 90% of the time, I do smooth driving, like just coasting to a stop when i see a red light up front, or just very very smooth acceleration when there is no cars behind me..

When I bought my new LS430 last month, I asked the saleman during my new car indocrination if it was OK to use mid -grade (91 octane) in the car. He said that is not necessary....just use regular (87 octane). He said that is ALL they have ever used in every Lexus on their lot and that's all they have ever put in every car they have sold and they all run fine on it. The computer adjusts just fine with no harm. That's all I've ever used and it runs great.

More input to the good mileage info: Just returned from a 4500 mile trip FL-CT-PA-KY-FL with my 2005 LS430--3600 miles of that Interstate, running 75-80 mph as much as possible, 900 miles urban and suburban. Averaged 24.8 mpg overall. Highest single tank Average was 28.2! 4 other single tank readouts in the high 27 mpg range! Calculated Avg was 24.87 Trip computer readout was 24.8. Amazingly close considering the variance I've experienced in previous (NOT Lexus) vehicles on the same trip in the past. So much for not being able to match the posted EPA Highway mileage (25mpg) number. Lexus definately has their act together!!!

My experiences (2003 LS) have been pretty much exactly as yours. When I drive about 50% city, 50% rural roads, I get about 20-21 MPG average. I got 27-ish on interstate driving at ~75-80 MPH most of the time.
