Default Part # for XM Satellite Radio for 2004 LS430

Hi,

Does anyone know the Part # for the XM Satellite Radio for the 04 LS430? I know Toyota offers it for the 2004 Solara, may it be compatible?

Thanks

Dean

The 2004 LS XM receiver is part # PT546-50040 and also requires a cover part # 64712-50020-C0 or 64712-50010-C0 depending if you have the Lexus Link (or rear A/C air filter).

Doesn't the XM radio kit have everything you need in it?

Default xm radio

Do you have the nav screen on your Lexus 430 and, if you do, wil you be able to use the nav screen for xm radio?

My dealer told me Lexus doesn't have a way to run xm radio through the nav screen and the best you could do is to buy the xm radio fm modulator with a remote unit.

The 01-03' model year w/ navigation won't be able to use the navigation screen for XM. Only the 04' navigation can control the 04 Lexus XM radio option. There could be a way to get XM channel# and information on the 01-03 navigation screen, but it would require a RGB decoder with extra stereo equipment and a very complex stereo installation/operation.

Well, I order the XM Radio and installed it myself today. It took about 5 hours for me to do it. I did not use the included brackets but instead modified the Lexus Link bracket to hold the xm receiver, it was a bit of a task but I did not have to modify the interior trunk panels (which was good!) and I spent most of my time dinking with trying to put the antenna inside the car (on inside rear deck) but ended up mounting the antenna on the rear trunk lid like factory spec. It sounds awesome!!! XM Radio gave me free install plus one month free usage
I can't say I would recommend anyone try this unless they were mechanically inclined and don't mind *improvising*
Bottom line cost, $488 for the install kit and that was it.

I bought the kit here:
http://lexus-parts.com/partdetail.as...bCategoryID=37
I also downloaded the 17 page installation booklet (it did not come with the kit). The only parts I used in the kit were the tuner cable, antenna and satellite tuner. I was going to take pictures but my digital camera flaked on me and my wife went shopping and had my 35mm camera with her, so I was SOL. Anyway, I cut-up the Lexus Link bracket (actually it is called the Trunk Cover Bracket No.1 if you don't have Lexus Link) and it was a bit of a hack and knowing what I know now, I could make it look a lot better (the bracket) but it works and that is all that matters
You have to remove the middle trunk floor panels, the passenger side trunk floor panel, the rear plastic trunk panel (watch out for the clips) and partially loosen the trunk top panel and passenger side trunk long panel. I pulled these last two panels some just to peek inside (the instructions call for removing these but I cut a few corners and I could reach all the areas I needed at this point. There are two amp plugs (amp above the wheel well) and I jumpered the tuner cable with these the two connectors on the tuner cable and secure with cable tie and then I mounted the tuner in the Trunk Bracket No.1 (after modifying it) routed the antenna wire, attached the antenna and you are done, except to put everything back. Once connected, I flipped the Nav unit to Satillite and listened to the preview channel, all was sweet.
Looking at my trunk you could not tell that I have the XM radio installed, I did not use (or even order) the additonal panel. The manual calls for you to hack the top panel, cut and then rivet, the additional panel to it. That was way to much work and would look like crap, IMHO. I could install one of these units in about 1 hour now and the original install only took me about 6 hours but I spent 4 hours dinking with how to position the XM antenna inside or out (of the car) and also calling to activate my new XM service. I chose the factory install of putting the antenna on the driver side of the trunk lid (I have a Flint Mica so it doesn't look to bad) but I will revisit this in the future and place it in a more stealthy place (rear inside deck lid by the tail light).

Hope this helps.

Great write up and good job on reengineering the bracket. I'm sure others will want to know exactly how you modified the bracket and mounted the XM receiver to avoid using the protruding cover. My questions are more on the electrical aspect of the install. So did the kit come with a wire harness. Was this a replacement harness or a new one you just plugged into empty sockets on the existing equipment? Did it go between the FM tuner and amp? I'd sure like to see the schematic of the connections to know if there would be any chance of factory XM radio on my 02. Did any of the 17 page install instruction have wiring schematic?

On the XM antenna what made you decide to mount it in the recommended location? Short antenna cable? Mounting clips? Did the antenna plug have (2) Fakra type plugs (square plastic male plug with small coax type plugs inside - note: small coax plugs can be removed) if this was the case you could use a Terk or Antenna Specialists XM antenna.

Sorry for so many questions, but you know what your doing and that helps us all. Thanks.

VideoNavi, yes, the kit comes with a wiring harness (kind of a replacement harness), you pull two existing plugs out of the amp and replace them with the ones on the XM harness and then you place the two original plugs into the XM harness. There is one extra plug that goes to the XM Tuner. There was no schematic, I wished there was. I installed the antenna where I did because I had a party to go to that night and I want to put my car back together . I figured I would at least make it look liked the dealer installed it
The antenna had the two Fakra type plugs and kind of looks like the Terk XM-3 but its not, its slightly smaller. I wished I had more time to snake a wire from the interior rear deck to the trunk but I could not find an easy way to do it, at least not with the time I had available. When it gets warmer I probably will replace or move the antenna at that time.

Thanks Zdude, so it sounds like the XM receiver 'intercepts' or 'switches' the AM/FM tuner L+R audio going into the amp. I'm sure it's a control signal on the TX+ and TX wires that cause this switch to happen. Of course the new 04' navigation system probably sends these control signals, so the XM receiver wouldn't work in a 01'-03'. Oh well..

eblue, i believe that is correct. You can check your manual it will have a section on the Satellite setting for your radio and I do remember reading it works on all '04 LS430s, with or without Nav. I got a pdf file from a dealer and I am not sure if this can be posted to the public.

you can get the xm kit for $418+ shipping but the issue is the antenna sticks out like a sore thumb on the side of the trunk. why couldn't they just use the lexus link antenna or allow install of the antenna inside the trunk-better yet inside the rear wind shield dash area?

what a price difference between this and delphi generics ($100+)?

That is a good price! I paid the $488 as noted in my earlier post but my dealer wanted a $100+ more than that for the part. I do not like where the antenna is mounted and as soon as the weather breaks, I am going to move it to the rear inside deck lid and I too wished Lexus would have built the antenna into the Lexus Link antenna system. I did test the antenna mounted outside and on the rear inside deck and I definately had a stronger signal on the outside but I still was able to receive XM with the antenna inside my car while it was in my garage!
I don't know anything concerning Delphi generic but the Lexus XM does integrate nicely with the Nav unit.
