bascially your cars computer, controls the fuel/air ratios, timing, and all that good stuff that controls the proformance of the car.. can be reprogrammed to run more efficiently, however, its programmed to meet state smog regulations or some kind of law

What I have learned, most of all new stock cars are pumped to the max, doing an ECU change will work better if you have done some major mods....

I know SRT makes a piggy back fuel ecu for the GS. I spoke with them and asked if it would work on an LS430 and they said I shouldn't have a problem. What I woder is, will it still put out the claimed 40rwhp on an LS?

what i have found out is that most new cars are not fully maxed, they run lower than possible, and at least 15 hp is possible out of a chip.... even lame chips. my audi has a turbo, but the turbo is so tame that a chip gives ~50hp and 90lbs ft of torque on the dyno.... using a chip should increase your hp slightly, dont know if its worth the buck on the LS though, my car, it definitely is.... $400 for 50hp and 90lbs ft is awesome for my car

So long as it is the same engine I don't see a reason why not. Obviously you couldn't plug an ECU from a VVT-i into an non VVT-i engine. As Gary C commented and following Jbrady, the exhaust is a key point in limiting engine mods...you'll want to free up the breathing. I'd want to see dyno info of before/after before spending $$.

Does anybody know about this JET chip reprogramming? 300 or 350 bucks for extra 12 to 20 HP sounds like a reasonable price.

But I guess I'll need to do the exhaust piping first.

nobody has done it yet, many people have had mixed results and i dont know of any LS or GS guys that have run the JET chip.

i know those chips work REALLY well on diesel motors. I have not personally seen one that works as well on a gasser. someone give it a shot and post back.

The easier though more costly solution is to buy a MB, BMW or Audi. The LS market has not attracted engine tuners in 2 decades of the LS. We basically have in-family 2JZ swaps for the UCF 1X-2X and other custom jobs. Nothing like what the German's offer for their luxo barges. I'm not out for that but it does make me that this car is overlooked.
