There is a 1990 LS400 here locally that I am considering to purchase. It has 225K and is priced @ $3900. I just hope it is a good car, with these miles. I know these Toyotas/Lexus are great though. I just sold a 1993 Camry LE V6, (similar to Lexus ES300) and it had 212K and was still like new. It was even still 100% squeak and rattle free. I do have a 1998 Ford Taurus with 245,500 miles, which suprises me. I did not even know these Taurus' would last these many miles. My transmission is getting tired however.

Schaeffer, why do you need 4 cars, let along 4 high-mileage (and high potential problem) cars? Why not just have one GOOD lower-mileage car and drive the hell out of it?

Bought my 92 LS for $4500 with 120K when someone traded it in at the dealership I was working at.
I now have 155K on it and in that time I've replaced:
Upper A-arm- was worn when I bought it so I had it replaced right away
All spark plugs and wires - a week after I bought it because the detailer water logged the wire harness when he "cleaned the engine" for me.
Oxygen Sensors - Still ran fine, but check engine light would keep coming on.
Power Steering Pump & Timing Belt - just because
A/C evaporator and expansion valves - cause I live in Phoenix, and no A/C is not an option.
New Wheels - Cuz grandma don't drive this car no mo'
I still think its one the nicest cars I've ever owned. Plus, despite being a 11 year old car Bell Lexus in Phoenix still treats me like gold, with loaners and the whole nine-yards every time I go.
I hope to keep it for years to come..

It will be interesting to see if it's worth putting all that money into it. My guess is that it will be, but it's not clear if the vehicle will nickel-and-dime you to death. ($500-and-$1000 you to death, really).

It should be noted that I'm a bonefide car snob. I can honestly say that I would rather have my 92 LS than any brand new Ford, Chevy, KIA, Hyndai, etc.(Well maybe a Z06 Vette, but I could buy a new lexus for that much $)
I see people driving around in $12K Ford Focus and think "You could of bought a used Lexus for that much"
So YES, It is definatley worth it to me,

My Lexus has just over 225K and runs & drives like new. Smooth and powerful.
Because they all still run perfectly. I do plan to sell the Taurus and perhaps the Buick Park Avenue.
I did buy that Lexus LS400 I mentioned.
I have had lower mileage cars, but none was no better than my high mile Japanese cars. My old 93 Camry LE V6 had 212K and it looked like brand new- inside and out. It was still 100% squeak and rattle free. I have owned many cars and have found out you cannot always go by mileage. I would rather have a well maintained, well cared for higher mile car, than an abused low mileage car. I have driven some cars with 8,000 miles, that I would not take for free.
Even some high miles cars can have low maintainence and still run good. Case in point- My dads 1988 Nissan truck has 260K and he has had NO problems with it. My uncle bought it new in 1988 and my dad bought it from him in 1998. It had 205K when my dad got it. My uncle told him that he had NEVER changed the timing belt. Original timing belt with 205K miles. To this day, the truck has never needed ANYTHING other than brakes. Some cars can go only 50K miles and need everything.

Mine is 92 LS400 and I have 113000 miles. Just got to the accident Tuesday.
Ordered body kit and passanger light and will be good as new when I'll finish it.
Still love that car. One of the best what I ever had.

I suggest that any one who has LS400 with more than 150K miles or 250K km lists all the major repairs they've done. From this information we can make good statistics, which should be useful to other owners with lower mileage and potential LS buyers to watch out.
