Red face ELECTRICAL SHORT? PLEASE HELP

I have a 92' 400 and lately it has be doing something very strange.
When I apply the foot brake:
- the lumination in the instrument panel goes off and the reverse indicator comes on,
-the brake tail lights in the trunk lid don't come on (they are good.)
-the "burned bulb warning light " in the instrument panel stays on even though all bulbs are good and plugged in,
-when head lights are on the tail lights in the trunk lid go off
-when driving, more noticably on the Hwy, and apply the brake, the car erratically down shifts
-when I engage the reverse gear the license plate lights come on and not the reverse lights.

Remember this all happens when the brake pedal is depressed.

Now when I remove all the four bulbs in the trunk lid all the above goes away especially the eratic down shifting which I was afraid was going to damage my transmission. I seriuosly need to get to the bottom of this because half my tail lights are out and the problem may worsen.

I think there is a thread on this already but I can give you the
411 , the left trunk hinge has the wires going thru it under a
dress cover, but as it exits to the body, the scissoring action
of the hinge frays the wires to the point where they cause a
short and causes all sorts of problems else where.

Check it and if so , just repair and splice the wires , mine
were on the edge of fraying and I covered the wires with a
wire loom from the store.

Hope this helps.
