Default 2004 options

I have heard that the pre-collision detection system and lasar based cruise control will not make it into the first round of 2004 models, and will not be available until January 2004. Can anyone confirm this?

the pre-collision system makes sense but the laser cruise control shouldn't have a problem because it's been an option on the current model and the changes to it are very minimal, but then again Im here just guessing.. I could confirm the info to you in a couple of days, one of our local members works at the technical dpt in a dealer..actually he works at the gwinnett henessy dealer!

I went to one of the local dealers and figured this out. The laser based dynamic cruise control is available in September.

In January 2004, it will change to RADAR based dynamic cruise control, and it will include the pre-collision system, which will not be available with the current laser based option. The salesperson said the radar verion is supposed to be more accurate.

So, for those of us who have been waiting this long for the 2004 model to come out, we now have to decide whether to wait another three months (or longer) for these new features to be available.

No pricing has been released by Lexus yet, so the salesperson did not know if the Radar option would cost more money.

The '04 LS430's are just awesome~! I came to work today and noticed it right away. What a beautiful car~! Those wheels make the car so much more desirable. I wish I had 70 large to blow away. Anyways, here some pics of our first '04 in the showroom.

Default saw the '04 today

I stopped by my dealership today to pick up a couple of stuff and found that they had a Pearl White '04 LS on the showroom floor. Of course I had to get up close for inspection.

After reading up here and other forums about the 2004 model year release, and the reviews, I must say that my expectations were high indeed. However, upon closer inspection, I was a tad disappointed. Yes there are visual/aestetic differences b/w the '03 and '04, but they are not discerning enough to make that much difference. The REAL differences lies in the non-visual areas: the 6-speed, the new SMART key, the improved Nav, etc...

The exposed exhaust pipes I found not to be that exposed afterall. Kinda muted imo. I would really want Lexus to be a little more aggresive with the exhaust pipes sticking out even more. I will also like to see the car a little lower with the 18" wheels. This will give it a more sportier and sleeker look, imo.

Although the prices are not available, according to the dealer, I was told that the '04 prices will be about 1% higher than the '03. If you factor the now standard moonroof, it will mean a literally *flat* price relative to '03.

What I found most disturbing, however, is the marketing brochure printed for the sales people where Lexus compared the 2004 LS430 against, guess what, the 2003 Infiniti Q45 !!! What the heck ?? Is Lexus marketing targeting Infiniti or Mercedes ??? I find this quite odd comparing to a brand that hasn't sold squat since its introduction..... Maybe it gives Lexus Corporate some strange fetish feeling to kick Infiniti in the pants while they are down

Overall, I'll give the '04 a passing grade, but I hope that the redesign departs completely from the current. Just MHO.

Bluestar, I agree with most of what you said, only subtle improvements in appearance and I still don't like the new wheels.
