Suspension spring discussions (The Mother Thread)

Yeah I don't think I would ever cut them as it will affect spring rate and how they fit on the perch and upper collar(s), etc. Stock springs are flat on top and bottom and fit squarely on the strut. It would definitely lower the car more though.
The Tanabes I bought were cut or atleast they looked like they were. They lowered my 95 big time. The tires tucked inside the fenders but they were too soft for me and I didn't like the way the car drove. I like it more sporty so now I am running my H&R's on the lowest perch (Bilstein) and am using rubber inserts to increase spring rate.

I have 1993 LS400. A previous owner removed all the stock air ride and installed coil over springs and then lowered the front by heating the springs. I want to raise the car a bit so as not to rub the fender when going over humps, swales or pulling into a drive way. I am running 225/60/16. Any thought of what I can do and ball park price to do such ?
Thanks

you can buy new front springs. i assume you just want it to be at stock height? buy new front springs and have them installed. simple as that. the dealer will charge you about 1.5 to 2 hours labor.

heating springs is imho worse than cutting them as you are compromising the whole structural integrity of the metal.

Help DF210 or Eibach pro kit??????
Hello CL Im tryng to decide between the tanabe Df210 or the eibachs on a 97 Ls400. I currently have a 20x8.5 on 215/35/20fr and 20x10 on 255/35/20 rears. I want the car to have an aggressive drop(no wheel gap), but I dont want to have to replace struts every 6 months or so. I have no problem rolling my fender to make it work......but help me out with any input to help me better decide.

personally.. i think you should just go with coilovers that way you'd just set you height...
replacing struts? you would need aftermarket struts so they last longer.. although i've been on DF210 with stock struts for about a year and a half now no problems...

i had the same problem for my 1LS and i went with tanabe's kus they offer the most aggressive drop for my car and i heard eibachs tend to sag after a while. i havent had a problem with my shocks giving out. im a very agressive driver and this is my daily driver and my kybs are fine.ive been riding these for like a year and theyre still running strong. i would recomend the tanabes. really exceeded my expectations. plus most of the lexus guys are riding on tanabes rather than eibachs or even h&r, i havent heard of anyone having those. but even that wasnt low enough for me tho. and maybe nto for ur either since u want no fender gap and u are on 20s. im trying to get coilovers soon or airbags.

The fully adjustable coils are the way to go and given the cost in the end, it's like $400 difference. Speaking of the cost for new springs and quality struts like the Bilsteins. I've had the Bilstein-Eibach combo in mine about 5 years now. Once the car initially settled after the install, it hasn't changed.
You are limited now so Tanabe is about the only easy domestic choice available. To get it dialed in with a no gap, the adjustable coils are the better choice.
