Front Upper Ball joints
From what I'm told by the local garage is I need new front upper ball joints for my 92 LS400. Called lexus and you can only by the entire front control arm at 500.00 Canadian per side. Does anyone have any other ideas? Maybe it's just bushings that need to be replaced? I don't know much about suspension parts

355K...is that like 200,000 miles? I'd figure on replacing the whole thing X2. Bite the bullet. it will drive sooo much better, at this point in it's life. It will probably expose previously ignored shortcomings in other tired old suspension parts, that you will notice once the ball joints are new again.
I had my lowers changed under warranty on my '95 @ around 60,000 miles.

It is rare that the upper ball joint would need to be replaced. It is common to have the lower ball joint replaced, as well as the upper control arm bushings. I had changed my lower ball joints, and had also replaced my struts. I was still getting a clicking noise on the front end, and discovered the upper control arm busings were bad. I was unable to find replacement bushings and had to purchase the entire control arm from Lexus which has the bushings as well as a new upper ball joint. I bought mine at Iron Toad which was a cheap as I could find http://www.irontoad.com/l_home.htm. I see now where aftermarket replacment bushings are now available, but you would have to check the forum who has these.

Had the lower ball joints replaced about 6 months ago. As far as the control arms go I ended up replacing the entire control arm with used ones off a low mileage LS400. The parts were in great shape, so whether it was the ball joints or bushings everything is fine now.
