Default 2nd Gen LS400 with chrome tips on exhaust

Somewhere on this board I saw a pic of a 2nd gen LS with chrome tips (sort of like the 1st gen). It looked sweet and made the car look sportier from behind. I was thinking about buying some tips and welding them on, something simple and round, not huge and ricerish. Anyways, does anyone have pics of a 2nd gen LS with tips or exhaust mods.

Here's that burgundy one I was talking about. He appears to have cut little moldings into his bumper. I don't know that I want to do that to my bumper, I'd like to see what it looks like without the bumper modifications.

That's my 99 LS400. At first I added the tips without cutting the bumper and it doesn't look good. I then had to cut the bumper and the curve part of the exhaust and it looks much better. As you can see, I also added the trunk lid (orderred for BMW 7 series from BMWcircle) and it fit well to my lexus.

Did they end up having to redo the tips to make them fit in the holes? Also, what did you use to make the holes, I'm sure it required repainting the bumper. Was this a DIY or did you have a body shop do it (How much did it cost)?

The chrome tip adds a little flare to the back. Your car looks pimp. What size exhaust tip did you use? (2.5"? 3"?)

Nope, the tips I got from AutoZone just fit it. I think it's 2.5". Believe it or not, I cut the bumper with a knife and no repainting at all. Just have to be very careful. It took my brother and myself 3 hours to do everything. The hard part is to cut the metal behind the bumper and cut the exhaust so that the smog can flow straight out. We did all that with a metal saw . The total cost is just $45 bucks for 2 chrome tips.

Damn, I don't trust myself with a saw and bumper.

How did you put the tips on?

Default Chrome Tips

I have a '03 LS 430 and want to put chrome tips on. Does anyone know where I can find a quality pair of chrome tips or would any muffler shop carry them? I just want them showing a little and not look
obnoxious.
Why Lexus didn't put them on in the first place baffles me.

Thanks, Phil

Phil,

All high performance quality muffler shops carry a variety of chrome tips that you can choose from. You'll be better off with a shop like that instead of just a midas or meineke shop for example because they specialize in older muscle car exhaust system modifications and usually have a greater inventory of chrome tips on hand to choose from. You can also try any auto parts store of course to see what they carry and have them welded on but your selection is extremely limited.

Default Exhaust Tips

Thanks for responding "Sharp LS-96". I found I have a authorized dealer right here in tiny Grants Pass, OR. I will visit them on Monday. Just want a nice, quality chrome tip showing a little. Thanks again.

Default Tips on 96LS

It is very easy to do use a Dremel Tool to cut the plastic bumper ,start off with the steel cutter first then use the small sanding disc to finish, take your time.......(there is no metal behind that area).
