Question Super Flushing

2000 LS400 @ 206,000 km

What are your thoughts and advice on my plan to superflush the car?

Superflushing is apparently when you keep flushing and flushing each system (trans, steering, oil, coolant, maybe diff too) until the colour of the liquid coming out matches that which is going in.
Although you can do this with just a 'change' sometimes, the superflush involves using the car in between flushes (a brief drive or a running engine) to move the new liquid all around, resulting in the hidden dirt and contaminants coming out.

Anyway...

Tuesday March 7th:
Flushing power steering and filling with Synthetic (Question 1: I'm in Toronto where it's -40C to +38C in a typical year, is synthetic better?)
Flushing coolant and filling with Toyota recommended.

Sometime in March:
Flushing Transmission and filling with synthetic, as well as dropping pan and replacing gasket (and anything else necessary)... (same question here about the synthetic ATF)

Thoughts?
Advice?
Concerns?

Thank you

If you want to use that technique on the powersteering system I could not disagree with that. Don't do anything like that with the engine or trans though. Flush the brake fluid all you want.

Doing something like that to your trans could shock the unit and start some new problems for you. For the trans just drain the pan and refill every other oil change or so (about 15k miles.) and use Toyota Type-IV. It's about 3 quarts. Don't use aftermarket fluid of any type. That's my recommendation. 'Synthetic' doesn't always mean better.

And don't do anything other than the recommended interval oil changes with synthetic motor oil of the recommended weight to the engine. Doing some technique like you describe stacks detergent levels and severely increases wear. Never add any sort of "motor flush" or crap like that to your engine either.

+1 with Banshee365. Unless the fluids are severely neglected doing the incremental drains at each oil drain interval is sufficient. Toyota Type IV for the tranny. Is there a need to drop the tranny pan?

Very interesting.
I will take your advice on the tranny and engine oil.
I though after so many km's I could drop the pan and clean out the metal bits and change the gasket.
Thank you!

I would recommend replacing your transmission filter if you're going to drop the transmission pan. It's not difficult to replace the transmission filter at all and it's not very expensive either. The part number for your vehicle is '35330-30050.'

Check out the tutorial I have linked below for more information!
