It could be your fuel pump. If your fuel pump runs out of gas you run the risk of overheating it and damaging it. Fuel pumps use the gas they pump to keep them running cool.

+1. Went around a corner pretty hard in a past Toyota that was about at the 1/8'th mark. Fuel starvation killed the pump and the car was dead, had to have it towed to get the fuel pump replaced. That was a $325 lesson to keep enough gas in the tank then on.

Rule 1 don't run a car that has a pump in the tank out of fuel, it is just like driving the car and keeping the engine running when the oil light is on, well not quite as bad.

I also believe you compromised your fuel pump. it will need to be replaced.

There should be a Schrader valve somewhere on your fuel rail. You should be able to check for fuel pressure by pressing the pin in the Schrader valve to let some fuel spray out. Use a rag to catch the fuel so it doesn't get all over your engine. You should be able to borrow a fuel pressure gauge from your local auto parts store as well.

It's also possible you sucked up a bunch of crap from the bottom of your tank and clogged your fuel filter.

No. There isn't any Schrader valve on the fuel rail. You need an SST or an attachment to measure the fuel pressure.

Well, that sucks. Maybe your local auto parts store will lend you an SST or attachment so you can check the fuel pressure.

SST means Special Service Tool. An auto parts store will not have something like that.
