Default $950 LS400 on CL, whatcha think?

http://fortsmith.craigslist.org/cto/5836221220.html

I've been talking to the owner and he seems fairly knowledgeable and upfront but I wanted a 2nd opinion. I'm looking for a second car to daily while I turbo my G and I only want an import and something I'm more familiar with. He sent me a ton more pictures and its actually in really great shape inside and out. He thinks its a TPS sensor since he has already replaced the ECU and it temporarily fixes the problem if he adjusts the sensor a bit. He says it falls on its face when you press the throttle down too far but at about 20% throttle or less it runs completely normal and will drive down the road just fine. I figure I'll buy a sensor and drive the 3 hours to him and see if that fixes it. If it doesnt, I'll head over to the local U-haul and rent a dolly trailer for like $60 and tow it back. Anything I should ask him as for known issues or is this pretty cut and dry with the 1UZ?

Thanks!

Probably not a bad deal. Does the owner know when the timing belt was done last? Personally I would only use an OE or Denso TPS. You can try an aftermarket TPS for testing but you will have trouble returning it if you want to upgrade to Denso later. You'll also want to install the TPS with a DVOM to set the sensor properly.

I'll have to ask him about the timing belt but I planned on a major maintenance overhaul anyway since the cars cheap and I don't know how its been treated. I figure I'll replace the battery, plugs, coils, drain and fill the trans, engine oil and filter, timing belt, water pump and should be good to go for another 100k.

As for the TPS, I'll just grab an OEM one and install it. I know they are VERY picky on where to tighten it down and not too versed on a volt meter, I'll have to do some research and watch some YouTube tutorials lol.

Don't bother replacing coils. They work or they don't. They're very durable.
