Default smoke from the new brakes

Just got done doing front rotors and pads on my daughters 1991 lexus. Put on wagner thermoquiets pads and bosch rotors. Took it out for a test ride of about two miles and came back and parked it on my driveway and smoke was just roiling off the two front tires. Scared the heck out of me on what I might have done wrong. While I was cleaning off the oil on the rotors I thought there was a lot of oil, but it never occurred to me that I should clean down in the holes of the rotor too. I let if cool down and then took it for an extended test drive and it must have burned off all the oil because it acted normally after that. Is this common or have I just been lucky on prior brake jobs? Never seen anything like that before.

That is what happened they likely did a good rust preventative (cosmoline like stuff) and if not cleaned in the vented area it would burn off.
