How does the temp gauge move from cold start on your LS?
So I replaced the gauge in my cluster last week. The temp gauge never really worked, it dangled at 6 o'clock, broken. So I replaced the temp sensor and the gauge itself. Now, from dead cold, it hangs at cold, and then after about 30 seconds starts to work it's way up to a hair above mid-way by 60 seconds and it seems to hold that just fine. Aside from being physically impossible to warm up that fast, is this normal for the LS? I get that the senor is right on top and probably does see heat quickly, but that is ridiculously fast. I'm wondering if my new sensor is throwing bad readings. The car was stone cold, 55 degrees out, hadn't been started in 2 days.

Replace the cheap small 2 wire temp sensor. Before I replaced that my temp gauge always read too cold.. since I replaced it the gauge is always at the 3 o clock position after warming up.
Disregard... I see you already replaced it....

My UCF20 gets to operating temp super quick too, my UCF10 a little slower, but probably up to temp within 2-5 minutes. My 10 does however lower down to right at/above the half way line after about 15 minutes of driving. Both cars new temp sensors (both sensors), fresh thermostats, toyota coolant ETC.

how cold it is outside and the type of driving being done most directly impacts how quickly the needle moves. if i have the cruise control set at like 60 the needle moves up pretty quickly, at operating temperature after like 4-5 min maybe, longer if it's cold outside. if the driving is just around the neighborhood or around town it takes longer though. either way i think it's impressive how quickly the engine can bring about 3 gallons of coolant to near boiling temps in only a matter of minutes. also makes you realize just how effective a good radiator is.

my temp gauge gets to operating temp in about 1-2 miles or about 3 minutes of constant driving at 45mph or so. This is in AZ, so the temps here are 85-95 degrees right now in the day.
