I upgraded my sound system awhile ago with a new head unit, amp sub, and 12" sub in a closed box and would like to know how would it sound if I replaced the 12" with a 8" sub in the factory location? Reason being is I'm going air suspension and would like to keep as much trunk space as possible. I guess what I'm asking is will a after market deck, amp and 8" sub sound nice without a box? Thanks!

I cut down a box and mounted it to the underside of where the factory sub fits. Fairly happy with the result. Hasnt effected luggage space much.

it's all about balance and how you tune the rest of your system. too much bass is garbage to me as i like a nice balance of low mid and high frequencies in perfect harmony! a nice 8" can hit cleaner than a crappy 12".

in other words it depends on the rest of your setup and we cannot tell you how it will or will not sound based on the info you stated. you could get a nice high end 8" but power it poorly and it will sound subpar.
