If the sub isn't setup for free air it can easily over-extend and damage the cone/surround. Make sure whatever you buy is meant for free air applications.

Also, the P2 you linked was rated for 250w rms, the amp you linked is rated for 500w rms.....

it sounds really good..very crisp and clear with just enough bass. as a rule sealed enclosures take more power to put out bass but if u can drive a sealed sub(a good one) u will get better results.

Is this something that would realistically work or is this overkill on the rear deck.

My music taste is very Electic... From EDM to Rap to Country. I am allover the place!
i have this exact sub..i used it a quickly got something that would add better bass. its still sitting in my rear deck unused.

thank you PD. Your input is always valued.... I will do a little more research and circle back with an update. Heck, I may end up just replacing the entire sound system at this rate. Might as well get a nice 5-channel amp and keep the amp under the passenger seat lol...

If you want to put an amp under the pass seat it's got to be small. The mono rockford amp you originally posted does fit, barely, after trimming the plastic heater vent (I used to have that same amp). For a 5 channel with decent power output that also fits it gets costly, something like this (which is a great amp BTW):
