Default Upgrading Daughters LS?

Current car: 97 LS, 191,00. Newer TB, Plugs, recent battery drain disabled telescoping wheel and power mirrors. Runs like a champ, starts strong and newer suspension makes a great daily. Makeshift paint blend from previous owner that I only noticed in darker light. Cosmetic but it still burns me a bit.....(Could use new mounts and mild PS leak)

Car I saw tonight: 99LS. 220,000. (not worried about mileage) White with cashmere brown leather. TB at 177,000. New radiator. Needs PS replaced and a spare tire. 8/10 Body with Interior that has minor wear overall, especially on arm rest. Suspension is sweet so maybe replaced, still requesting paperwork for all other work form previous shop tracking VIN.

Asking $2,000 for the 99 which seems ok. Mounts felt solid. Also Daytime running lights? Did not know this was an option. Stereo display meh. Not worried. Telescoping wheel does not move front to back, only up an down. Again, replacing daughter's car who is fresh off to Chico State. Soild DD is needed

To me: Buy the 99 and sell the 97 at $2800 OBO and come out with enough to cover needed repairs for the 99.
Just got off the road after 4 hrs figured I'd check in. Love the 98-00 models. Fast and smooth. Tired and need a beer. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I suppose the 8/10 body is why the price is low? If your 97 body is not all that you may not get the 2800 plus the miles on it. It is an okay price for a running and driving 99. So what is the 8 of 10 problems?

Minor ding at front bumper area. Someone backed into the car apparently. Not a big deal to me. The separation was sealed with some silicone to avoid water intrusion. This is the only real body flaw

The 97 is not bad per se. The passenger door and rear quarter panel are a slightly different color depending on the lighting.

Personally I prefer the 98-2000 models and I'd upgrade to that just for the base improvements. And I prefer white also.

Either one will do about the same long term. But it sounds like your a bit dissatisfied with the 97 and it may be more enjoyable to pour the effort into the 99 to keep it long term.

Get what you want and to the maintenance as you're going to need to do that with either car.

That's a good deal for the 99 especially if all the paper work pans out. I would not hesitate.

That's what I thought too. The price was the reason I drove two hours each way to see it. I was not disappointed. Lots of power and smooth shifting despite the mileage. Guy does not know much about these cars which is a good break since I usually see so many over-priced, underwhelming models as it is.

How is the underbody and subrame? Double check it for corrosion in comparison to your 1997. If the car is also in California, it's probably not a problem, but who knows where the car originated from.

If I remember correctly, your daughter also had a 1991, yes? I guess that car is long gone now.

Congrats, you made a very wise choice, the 98-00 are the best, hands down.

So I'm guessing you bought it?? If not it maybe gone now.

Oh and on the 97, that is typical of any body shop blending the paint. That is why I told Billy to not do that. I have never seen a body repair that isn't obvious on an LS.

I'd say that 99 is worth 4-4500 the way it sits all day long. So getting it for 2k is a great deal.

I paid 2700 for my DWP 97' w/ 253k miles w/ no paperwork so for 2,000 and some kind of history that's a smoking good deal. I can't even find the 98-00 body style in AZ for less than 4k.

Sold to a buddy who rebuilds LS's for $400. Yes. And she drives a RAV4 now

Saw that post and wise advice Dicer. No, the car is being held for me, knock on wood, until the 17th so I am in luck!

I thought it was a solid deal. Either way on either car the PS needs replaced. Better car so yeah, I think I may have a winner. Not sure it's worth that much but at $2,000 it's hard to say no.
So the ECU issues are not as prevalent on the 98-00's if I read correctly or am I mistaken?
Thanks for all the input!
+1 for the Angry Orchard. Quite tasty

Buys at auction and refurbishes for a very minor profit. Just a side gig. Sold him oldest daughter's 91 with front end damage. I got $400, he got a drive train with 130,000, 4 new tires and a new battery. He got the better deal but I needed it gone. Win win
