Default Thoughts on this excellent appearing '99 for sale...

Edit: price reduced from $8,000 to $6,500

What do you think of the price?

Seems the excellent '98-'00 LS prices intersect with the early LS430's, which I just started looking at (and know little about), since quality lower mileage LS400's are scarce around here.

I'm about to run the vin on the Lexus driver's site...

Talked to the owner. Said he bought it with 102K on it, now has 105K.

Carfax shows the 90K service was done.

Lexus drivers site left off around 65K IIRC in 2012.

I didn't see the miles on it. I think its a bit over priced since he did say the bumpers needed painting. And to do correctly its no small task. So talk to an auto body place about how much it would cost to remove them and paint them. Do not ever have the car painted to match them, its a mistake. And research prices of the cars so you can hit the owner up with what the real price should be that reflects the bumper work.

Looks pretty clean overall. +1 with dicer. Would need to know miles on car to determine a suitable price.

Here's by far the worst of it.

Looking at the Lexus Driver entries, wouldn't be surprised if the owner wasn't up in age, which would explain the bumper scrapes.

Saw the maintenance records...major service was done at 96K.

Current owner is very young...looking for something much newer.

I'd put it up on a lift before you buy it. Verify that "rust free, never driven in winter" line.

As for the price, I think its steep considering it needs at least $1000 worth of body work to get the bumper covers redone.

From the pics of the interior though, it looks like a nice survivor that the previous owners loved and took great care of.

Very steep on the price, IMO.

Unless it only has 30,000 miles or so, its a $6000. tops for private party, unless he's writing a 30 day guarantee on everything. The front bumper cover looks ruined bad enough that it needs replacement. And verify if the timing belt was done, no matter who does it that is a $1500. off the price if its not done.

Front Bumper cover is $580 plus, and then paint work is likely another 500 and that's just the front.

Just remember that around here I have seen 98's going for anywhere from $3500. to $7000. And depends on if its a private sale or a dealer.

Since it has some bs Stance sticker in the front windshield I probably wouldn't bother with it. I would take a look at the carfax and see how many miles he drove it. Also, would not expect the timing belt was done when someone says "they think" it was.

I notice he didn't include a shot of the drivers bolster seat area. Always take a look at that area.

If you do buy this car make sure the title name matches the seller's.

If it was a kids car and the underside is a scraped up mess, then I would walk away, I didn't know that was some goofy sticker on the windshield. It could be a ruined mess, it needs good checking out.
Good catch Gasbuggy.
