91 ls400 computer / ecm
I need to replace my ecm -
1 - want to buy used - how do i know which are compatible. Car came from california but not sure it was bought there 1st time.
2 - when i get the right unit, is there a tutorial/instuctions anywhere to do the actual r & r?
Thank you.

Search for TaninAuto...
They can rebuild your current ECU, or you can send them a used ECU to rebuild.
However, read this thread first;

The best way to do it is to match the numbers that your ecu has. If your car has trac it needs an ecu from a trac car. If you don't have trac then you need one from a car with out trac.

Thank you much, Guys. If I decide to purchase a USED / tested ECM, how would know it is from a TRAC car? Mine is a TRAC.
I may also check out the capacitors as in the famous solved all my problems post.
Lately, I have been driving the car just locally, a couple of miles here and there - runs beautifully. It seems to get that errant stalling after some more miles.....
Thank you!

We've never seen a 90-92 LS400 ECU with bad capacitors. Not saying it doesn't happen, but if it is opened up and there is no evidence of leakage the problem is elsewhere.
We just replaced an ECU for a guy that swore his ECU was the problem. He had the same issues with the replacement ECU.

I replaced all the capacitors on my '91 a few years ago. None had failed visually. I did not think I had any problems with the car beforehand, but I _think_ the pre-emptive repair did fix a few things on driveability.
