Need a new transmission, will these work?
I need to find a used transmission for my '96 Lexus LS400. It has the A340E tranny.
Wikipedia lists these cars as having the A340E tranny. Will these work??
Thanks!
Mike

i would not use wikipedia to source final information about your replacement trans. i'm surprised to see jeep and volvo cars in that list too! that list may have the same transmission core but they vary greatly between different car manufacturers and generation by generation!
you need to find a trans in your generational group, and specific to the 1UZ-FE engine in your LS400. look for a trans with years slated for 95-97 LS400 model cars!

Any wrecking yard can print out what will work. I think to be on the safe side anything with in the matching years will work. Like 1990 to 1992, and these may go into the 93 to 94's. Then 95 to 97 etc. For yours I would keep it in the year group listed and out of a Lexus. The other applications maybe the exact same transmission but that may not include the valve body, shift selector, wiring harness's, electrical connectors, out put shaft spline count and such, tail housing and out put shaft length. All other internals and case would be the same, so rebuild kits friction materials and all that would interchange.
Valve bodies are the big one because different applications maybe using vastly different valve body calibrations, and maybe not, I don't know.
