Talking plastic engine covers

anyone else hate the plastic engine covers on the 1uz? its a beautiful engine to look at. the cover is always the first thing to go in my cars. call me crazy but I just love the way the 1uz looks without the cover. thoughts?

I have seen enough wires, plumbing tubes, belts, and naked dirty metal in my life. I want them covered up so I can forget about how they all work, and I just want to sit back, relax, and enjoy the whole experience.

I prefer to see some of the harness and hoses covered. Modern engine bays are getting worse with respect to hoses, wires and other traction modules that invade the engine compartment.

These R engine variants in Celicas are purdy to me:

i prefer it to be covered myself. the 1uz is not meant to look pretty unless you tuck all the harnesses and hoses.

ITBS anyone?!?!

It may even keep a bit of the dirt off stuff too. And who really cares, the hood is down covering it all anyway.

my biggest reason for keeping it on is just to keep less dirt from getting on things, and it also probably keeps certain sounds out a bit more

and i think the vvt-i 1UZ is very nice looking engine, even with the hoses and wiring. makes it look more sophisticated lol

Keeping it clean goes a long way too. Each wash I wipe the cover and other easy access areas of dust off. That lower cover works well by keeping the air from coming into the compartment.

I actually like the covers, I think they give the engine bay a classy look.

I'm with you, I tore that **** off as soon as I could and tossed the crap in the trash

All it does is get in the way whenever you have to do any work on the engine. Try replacing the coolant temperature sensor or spark plugs and wires --- 90% of the work doing that is fiddling with the useless plastic crap.

I sfrongly agree that the motor looks great but I am very obsessed with keeping everything clean and quiet. I'll post up all the **** sitting on my cover tomorrow from just 2 weeks of winter driving. Rather dirt be on a easily wiped off cover than all over the upper intake.
