Electrical Issues on a 1999 LS400
Hello folks,
I was driving my 1999 LS400 today and had some interesting issues on the ride. When I tapped the brakes the warning lights on the dash all came on. It seemed similar to when the alternator went bad a few months back but the car never lost power. Tapping the brakes produced the same result repeatedly. I flipped the headlights on and again, all of the warning lights came on momentarily. In this instance the needles for the gauges seemed to go a little wild before returning to normal operation. I wanted to get as close to home as possible so I kept on driving. After a while the VSC warning came on and now will not go off. When I got home I shut the car off and tried to restart it. It fired right up with no hesitation and seemed to act normally aside from the VSC warning light. After driving for about 5 mins the entire dash, radio and climate control system went completely black and almost seemed to reboot. This repeated itself 2 more times before I got home.
I have read about the ECU issue but this seems to be of a different nature. The car is all stock and I have owned it for approximately 5 years with hardly any issues. Any ideas on this one?
Thanks in advance.
Larry

Now that sounds like a classic ground problem. There is a ground wire going to the body from the battery, and one bolted to the bottom of the motor from the battery. Also check the battery posts.
Check those out and report back.
The ECU likely has nothing to do with this.
