Stuck in pasco washington with my LS/road trip gone bad
#46
Yeah this is not a good time of year to go road tripping in any type of vehicle. Is the LS your only car? If so not a fun deal to have to start working on it and not have a car to drive. Hope you have a nice warm garage.

stories like this make me glad i live in florida. i cant imagine getting stuck and freeze to death in my car. driving on snow is awful. especially in our cars, they don't take it very well.

It seems that an LS can take a lot of beating and still run... Congrats on making it home safely!
BTW, I had my newly bought LS crap out on me the first weekend after I bought it. All the lights on the dashboard were blinking like crazy, I thought "surely this must mean the dashboard has gone crazy..." and then I learned the hard way that it was the alternator. Duh.
Since I was about 150miles from home, in the middle of nowhere, I decided to buy a new battery at a gas station and see if I can make it home that way. I stayed in the hotel that night, because I could not drive with headlights on, for obvious reasons... The next day, alternator managed to work just enough to keep the engine running!
I still have the wrong size battery in my car. It is for 2nd gen LS. Ever since then I feel like an LS will never really leave me stranded, even when I do everything wrong.

they really wont. these are some of the most forgiving cars ever built. you can run them with no coolant overheat the **** out of them and they will still run
you can not change the oil for 100,000 miles and they will still run
you can drive with no PS fluid at all, fill up, and it will work again
you can push them as hard as they can possibly go and they wont blow up
you can get in crazy wrecks with them and drive home with parts falling off
you can literally abuse and beat these cars to death and at the end of the day, they still want to be your friend.
if they are about to freak out they give you lots of warning first, usually months in advance.
long live the Ls400! they are ****ing amazing vehicles

Im loving all the stories of long living lexus's. I just woke up about 3 hours ago, lexus started and warmed eight up like the sudden loss of coolant earlier was nothing. I know my audi's wouldn't have been as forgiving!

@mattyg yes.... Yes i did. It was fun at least? I had to, its a thing i do with cars i plan to keep a while. Dont worry, its getting fixed proper this weekend. Also matt farrahs lexus gave me some confidance in its ability to make it... Maybe too much confidance...

mine is in good shape. 195k on it Tbelt was changed in 04 with 115k on the clock. I wouldn't trust it out of the area still cause these cars are just so old now. the cars are 20+ years old now, and so are all the parts. 50 miles radius is my confort zone lol

Well you are a brave soul, lol. I guess when I first joined this forum people were pretty much on the, "check the timing belt/water pump" posthaste and don't do too much until you know.

That's been my experience with Audi vehicles...
I really like the Audi exterior and interior design, just not the quality or reliability.
No way. I want my LS to appreciate in value!
50?
I'll be driving my LS from SoCal to WA next week.
