your LS400 story, why is it special to you?

They were built when most manufactures knew how to make a decent roof on a car. And didn't copy every little detail of other manufactures like they do now. People have to buy pickup trucks now if they want a more flatish roof line. Maybe why trucks are so popular. Pretty much no one can design a nice looking average car anymore. The only way you get good looks is by spending 150,000 up. I just wish Lexus would get the message. It would be better for them to regress in the design department, than to make to scary looking things they do now. The pursuit of perfection has been slowly winding down. Yeah back in the day Lexus was the trend setter for nice looking cars, what happened?

historically (not always but often) the japanese have always done best when they've taken an existing formula and then absolutely perfected it, particularly with designs. want the best mercedes? get an LS. want the best british roadster? get a miata. now i know the LS isn't just a copied mercedes but the design has an undeniable resemblance. i was even told the other day that my car looked like a benz.
i think toyota is aware of this notion so now they're doing stuff to "distinguish the brand" and all that so we've wound up with the ridiculous spindle grill. when japan comes out with its own original design you frequently get stuff like this
i'm perfectly happy to have my LS go so unnoticed, keeps prices down and makes people that much more impressed when they're in it

Needed to replace the Saturn that my mother had graciously given me; at 220,000 needed a top end rebuild and cats. No dice. Recently refinanced house so had some $ to actually buy my first nice car. Checked Craigslist and sent a ton of emails but you know how that can be. Well the first guy who responded was a guy with 98 LS 400. I didn't know these cars from dirt, and wasn't looking for one. It just fell in my price point.
Pulled into the driveway when I saw it. Good God love at first sight. Alpine Silver, fresh wash, tires shined up, 103,000, new TB/WP, brakes , tires. Beautiful. The guy told me to do my homework on these cars, that they weren't ordinary. After driving it the first time I was sold and have since developed an obsession for the 98-00 models. Looking to buy another one actually. LOVE these cars

I am into sports cars and Hondas and never knew I would own a Lexus, let alone a grandpa model, as my friends call it. But one drive, did it for me and I am a LS convert (cannot say Lexus convert yet) Love the V8, power and the quietness inside as it devours highways. Small suspension changes made a lot of difference to me. I am a bit obsessed by the car. Recently there was some condensation in the trunk, and I took that opportunity to send it to the body shop for a full detail, paint chip protection and it has come back in even better shape than I bought it an year ago. At 95K miles, and good maintenance, I am not looking to buy a DD for a long time. New cars make me cringe with their horrible exterior, busy and ugly interiors and harsh rides. If I want a harsh and engaging ride, there are other cars for that

I love mine because...
I had a 2004 ES330 in 2010 and loved it until I wrecked it. well my grandmother wanted me to have another Lexus because she knew how good they were. I've had my LS400 since then. The reason my car is so special is because in August of 2015 my grandmother passed away, so everytime I drive the car I think of my grandmother.
