Default Valet trunk lock button ucf10

I have a 1992 ls400 and i accidentally pushed the trunk lock button next to to fuel door switch. No big deal right, just put my key In the hole and unlock it. Well it won't fit in the damn hole.

I know Im not using the valet key as it will open the trunk from the outside. Basically it's a big inconvenience when I want to open the trunk when the car is running as I need to turn it off and jump out to unlock it. I don't really want to pay a locksmith to fix it for me. Any tips?

if the key physically opens the trunk and glovebox it will open the valet lock. It doesn't go all the way in though. Just push it in as far as it will go and turn.

I've shoved it in as far as I can without breaking the damn thing and tried turning it left (the way it says to turn it) and right for ****s and giggles. It feels like the plastic is going to break that holds the keyfob to the key itself so I give up ( it's the old school key with the key fob/key head in one) It won't go in more then 1/4 inch lol no pun intended.

I got one like that too. Its just way down on the list of projects. You might try some tri flow lube in it, I think that's the name of the stuff lock smiths use.

Just a point of data from 2019... This on a 1991 LS400.
I had a MASTER key (with transmitter) that would NOT insert into the Valet Unlock hole in the dash.
Found a locksmith that could still make copies of the mechanical part (for $38.00 I think I remember).
Then the COPY WORKED int he Valet Unlock! FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF!
Sigh.

Must be some subtle feature that wears down from continuous ignition use?
Speculation Mr Spock?

PS It was not my plan that making the copy would fix the Valet Unlock problem, I just wanted an extra copy.
The (TEMPORARY) fix was just an unexpected bonus.
YMMV!

This is similar to what I had been told about using the key cylinder on the driver door. The frequency of the key insertions will cause wear in the cylinder. If possible use the remote to actuate the release.
