Default My first Post...93 ls500 and help needed inside

I have been a long time lurker/admirer here but never actually needed to make an account because most info was easy to find with a simple search, This however has me stumped. I have looked thru tons of wiring diagrams and harness layouts that i dont understand and cant find my answer so ill just ask...

what is going on under my steering wheel?

I had planned on replacing my cracked tan dash with a clean black dash then i saw this and figured i should address it before continuing. or maybe it doesn't matter at all but i have no idea

the car started and ran perfect before i unplugged all the stuff connected behind the dash and found these wires

so, what is the connector i circled in yellow? it was not plugged into anything . should it be?

inside the red circle why is my green wire cut and spliced into but running to nothing?

inside the blue circle the wire seems to be attached to a bolt (ground?) on the side of the column but the other end is not running to anything???

not sure if any of this is necessary considering i am stripping the whole car except this front dash area, just curious really

NOW ON TO THE OTHER SIDE...

behind the air bag i found this wire that appears to have a sensor or something cut off it
also not sure if this matters at all or even what it is or goes to?!?! it appears to be a red and a black wire in the same sleve but has nothing on the end

any help or even a direction to keep searching in would be great.
worse case scenario i put it all back together and have a cracked dash boo hoo
all comments suggestions are welcome and appreciated

First of all I hope you disconnected the battery before doing this.
All the funky wiring under the steering wheel looks like someone had installed some electrical device, and that was the power for it or a remote start or something like that. It is non Lexus and does not need to be there.
If you car doesn't start now its would be from doing this major electrical stuff with the battery still hooked up.

The other wire (glove box) you either need to find a junk yard car and look or check out the wire diagram. Someone has been playing with the electrics.

My suggestion would be to pick up the electrical manual off that auction site or used book store. Then you'll have a reference for the wire colors. Definitely hacked but I couldn't guess what they are trying to tap into with the connections in the column. That's horn, lights, indicators, air bag and windshield wiper control.

I would bet that the extra wires were for an aftermarket cell phone system. These were extremely common during the 1990's and did not use any of the factory prewiring for the Lexus phone system option. I had a "President" cell phone system installed through the Lexus dealer in the LS400 I bought in 1990. It required two connections to the ignition - one constant 12V and one switched 12V on the accessory circuit. Its microphone wire ran up one of the windshield pillars.

If the owner of the 2000 LS400 I sold in 2014 ever disassembles its dashboard, console and trunk, he might be screaming "WTF are all these wires"? I installed a series of phone systems and electronic gadgets and usually did not remove the wires when I stopped using them or sold the car - just snipped the ends off so they didn't show.

By the way, the industry standard color for an aftermarket phone system audio system mute wire is "yellow".

THANKS for the responses,

So i got a better look today and realized the red and black wire behind the airbag was running to the little red light that sits on top the dash board (security light or something) i must have broke it loose when ripping the dash out. im guessing i should have removed the light first. not a problem. new dash has a new light.

also i cut out that green wire and ran a new jumper piece to the connector. although that connector doesn't connect to anything. might look into this in the future.

i didnt disconnect the battery but will start doing so in the future.
the car runs great and starts perfect even now that the dash is removed.

its actually a pretty fun drive with no interior

this is the worst it will ever look... radiused the fenders shaved the badges and antenna and set the coils as high as it can go on 19's to move it around easier also i painted the outer taillights red with the vht nightshades stuff.. you can see the fender metal just laying on the driveway i took 1" out of the front and 1.5" off the rear

its pretty mad max right now...and it was so nice just a few weeks ago
the car only has about 50,000 original miles on it.
the new motor with all the flex fuel stuff has like 250 miles on it
I will have it finished before easter because thats the next drift event im going to.

a lot of work got done again tonight but still no cage and big brakes untill probably tomorrow

shortened the front arms so i didnt have to cut the enigine bay holes and got the toe adjusters in.

gonna do an alignment before bed then take it somewhere tomorrow to get an actual print out of my spec
maybe get it dyno tuned if i dont have to make an appointment, i know a place but not sure if its available tomorrow

Changing the coolant would not affect the A/C. First thing to check is if the A/C clutch is operating when you turn the A/C on.It could be locked up.
