Not sure what year car you have but my 2000 axle Allen bolts weren't that difficult to remove. Just get a bigger wrench and manhandle them loose.

It's a 94 I'm pretty sure. I'm working on it for a friend. i really hate allen head bolts. I worked for the better part of a hour and couldn't get one to budge. I am working on my back so it sucks. my corded electric impact won't budge it.

Some one could have either way over tightened them or used Loctite. You will need to try a long 1/2 inch drive breaker bar or ratchet, if that won't move it then yeah heat.

Loctite, I haven't dealt with the ones on an LS yet. But many on VW's, and I would never Loctite them. It is like Loctite ing your lug nuts.

I've only been doing mechanics for 50 years or so, I kind knew about the various grades of Loctite.

then im confused here..putting loctite on something that has to be removed periodically as opposed to...well..hopefully not for many years, is no where near the same in comparison.

If a bolt is torqued correctly it has a preload on it and will not come loose. The most critical bolt or nut on a thread in your car is the connecting rod ones. They are never loctited, they are oiled or lubed before installation also they are the most highly stressed bolt there is and endure many cycles of stress, especially if the driver likes to rev to red line.
There are some rotating bolted parts I do Loctite but I see no reason to Loctite CV's to a flange, I have never had a VW cv loosen up. What ever you Loctite when you remove the bolts or nuts you should always clean the threads before reinstalling even if using more Loctite the next time.
