Default Is my serpentine belt too tight or tensioner too weak?

Hi, got a weird squeal coming from my engine. I did a spray test with a watersprayer on the serpentine belt and the sound appeared or became louder when water went on.

So I went to buy a serpentine belt Bando 6pk2245. Spend over 2 hours trying to fit in and just couldnt put it on!

Then it was another nightmare trying to fit the old belt back on! But i just managed to fit the old belt on.

The car is a 1996 LS400 UK spec.

Could someone help? Should I get a longer belt or replace the tensioner? Could you have a look at the pic here as it is now?

Kind thanks

Should I get a 6pk2275 belt instead of the 6pk2245?

Hi, this is what I used on my UK 1996 model
6PK2228 the 6PK2275 may be too big and could slip .
Dont understand why the 6PK2245 would be too tight ,maybe a silly question but you are holding the tension off when fitting the belt ?

There is a size difference between the first and second generations if you have a belt for a first gen it wont fit .

Good luck .

Thanks, yes I think I must be doing it wrong somewhere. Everywhere I've read says its a 5 minute job.

What I did was put a socket wrench on that tensioner and turned it counterclockwise to loosen the belt but somehow the belt just barely fits on. Did it after dinner time and quite dark so might have been doing it wrong.

which market was your car sold in originally? There are differences in USDM/JDM/Euro model LS400 serpentine belt as some were sold with Hydraulic cooling fans and some with belt-driven.
