Default Engine / Motor Mounts

My car (98 LS400) has been experiencing vibration throughout the low RPM range, especially while at idle (about 350-400rpm). After much research, my best guess is that the motor mounts need to be replaced. Before I order the mounts, I want to be sure I have the correct ones - see the link below:

http://toyolexparts.com/index.php/ge...1990-2000.html

Are both the engine mounts the exact same part, hence this "engine mount set" will be all I need to do the job? Or do I need to find the front and rear mounts separately?

According to my parts data for a JDM, both R and L use the same parts.
UCF20/21 11/97~08/00 P/N 12361-50140

for a older UCF20/21 model, as follows.
UCF20/21 10/94~11/97 P/N 12361-50100

As far as I was informed, 12361-50140 is a redesigned one for a VVT engine.

For early models
UCF10/11 11/89~ 02/94 P/N 12361-50021

you may want to replace the rear mount (as known as transmission mount) at the same time for best result. I just replaced them all, back to "lexus ride" now

Yamae - are you sure on that part number for the VVT engine? A google search for "12361-50140 ls400" doesn't net me much. While the other part number "12361-50100 LS400" generates a ton of hits.

Good to know that the two engine mounts are identical parts, and there is no difference for R and L.

My transmission mount was replaced just last year so I'll be passing on that for now

correct, the transmission mount is cheaper and much easier to replace, and accounts for roughly 70-80% of the vibrations!

See the page below and you will know that a VVT engine needs two 12361-50140. It's the Russian language partly though.

There are different engine mounts for UCF20/21. 12361-50021, 12361-50100, 12361-50101, 12361-50140, 12361-50141.

A 12361-50140 or 12361-50141 is an improved one to match for a VVT engine.
Mechanically you can use 12361-50100 or 12361-50101 for your car but it may show some difference of performance. A different part number sure means some difference of the part.

The final figure 0 / 1 means the difference of the manufacturer, I was informed.

wow, thanks for the info - this board never ceases to impress me with the knowledge of its members.

Not sure where I'll be able to buy the 12361-50140 or 12361-50141, so I may just have to get the 12361-50100 as I can find purchase links for that part. Thanks again Yamae, you are my clublexus savior, for the second time now.

just as a note, my 99 mounts were replaced about 4 years ago and were in two pieces (at about 130+k)

I suspect mine are in multiple pieces given 200k miles... but the trans mount solved 99% of the vibration issues so I stopped there .

The 12361-50100 or 50101 is correct.

Yea, I know -- I even have new ones sitting on the bench LOL... waiting until I have more time/motivation to install them. Probably once the trans mount goes again :P

Those look totally shot. What were the symptoms and ride quality of the car with the mounts broken like that?

vibration at 70ish and a hard stop and loose shift lever, you could feel movement if your hand was on the shift ****
