Default Speedometer off by about 16 MPH

Searched the threads with the search button but do not see any discussion on this problem. My 99 speedometer needle comes to rest at about 14 mph when you shut off the car. While driving comparing it to GPS speed, it reads 16 MPH high. Any thoughts on a possible fix without replacing the whole cluster? Car has about 145 K miles. The odometer is working fine and so is the tachometer.

Have you changed capacitors on the dashboard by any chance? Or do you know if anything was done on the dashboard? I am experiencing similar problem but bit different. I would like to here more or others who may be having same/similar problem with the speedometer.

Michael, I did not think capacitors were an issue on 99's? I too would love to hear from others. Right now I either just do the math in my head to know how fast I am going or I set up My I-Phone with a speedometer app and set it on dashboard. Still love this car and would like to get it fixed WITHOUT removing it and sending it in if at all possible. Thanks for the option though Tanin.

Judging from your above statement, your meter's mechanical home position is shifted upward. It needs to calibrate mechanically by someone who can do it.
