Default TOYOBD1 and its wonders.

So I recently was pushed to buy this product after being bugged about it for a few months (not gonna mention any names but his initials are SIMON! lol)

But I must say. I am impressed. My car tells me everything. Connects to my phone. reads what I am doing at any point in time. And its just a small box and 4 wires and the directions come with. Here are some screenshots from it in action - if you end up wanting to talk to the guy who builds them in his house let me know, he isnt a member on here but he is a really cool dude.

I just became aware of this device as I was searching for a connector that I could buy that would mate with the diagnostic port on our 1991 LS400.

I wonder why there are no follow ups?

I just ordered it and I hope it will somehow help me solve the years-long problem some (maybe many?) of us have with our early LS400: Becomes Erratically Unresponsive to Gas Pedal after thoroughly warmed over.

Don't want to hijack this thread but has anyone done this before me?

As I said I just discovered this but I think since the original post it looks like the inventor has made other versions. The one I ordered (TOYOCOM) has a real connector so it plugs right into the diagnostic port rather than having to poke individual pins into holes. $85.89 US including postage from Canada.

I was in the process of BUILDING a replacement for the Fuel Pump Resistor to try since that part is no longer available (except used) it seems.

It's not often discussed becaue it's not often needed by the average owner, the factory OBDI system codes are easily read with a paperclip. The additional information, while useful when tracking a specific lingering issue, is not useful for the majority day to day.

Nooooooooo, don't say that! Tearing down the engine and enjoying tracing the electrical system in the pursuit of restoring "perfection" was the normal routine. I was the only one not doing that.

I wouldn't worry about the availability issue on a fuel pump resistor. There are many other methods. Of course you have to be careful for the heat generated by the alternative one. I have many 0.1 ohm/10W resistors and using 7 of them in series makes it possible to work as a original one. Another method is to use 2 of H3 bulbs or equivalents in parallel. Bulbs show smaller resistance when used at smaller current and just 2 is fine for this application.

The TDCL connector wasn't fully used to its fullest potential even by Toyota techs at the dealer despite the fact the older Diagnostics Tester(a Toyota-labeled Vetronix MasterTech 3100) and the 1st gen Techstream was capable of interfacing with it and reading off the serial data stream. Not too many mainstream Toyotas had it - only Lexus did. It was like GM's ALDL in a way - but the aftermarket back then supported Detroit more.
