Default Can $4K buy a well-maintained/good cosmetics LS400?

They are scarce IMO in the few months I've been looking around Western NY. Interested in other opinions of what may be available outside my area.

Thanks,

Skip

Sure can. I bought my 98 LS with 95k miles, California car, no rust, owned by the same Mongolian family for all it's life and only paid $3.5k. Car was babied and even repainted a year prior to me buying it. It was stock when I bought it, but still looks just as good to this day.

Mabey on craigslist, on cars.com I seen some really really clean 95-97 models going 6-8k with low miles on them. Low mileage 98-00 models will cost a lil more.

I love Texas, I have seen 98-00 models clean with fairly low mileage going for 5-7k on Craigslist.

Edit. I didn't see the post above, 3.5k is a steal for a 98 model! Oh and nice ride btw

It can get you a nice one but not the best . I've seen some run as high as 8500 here in Atlanta . These car range from 3500 to 5900 depending on condition and mileage

Any well maintained LS should not need or have a repaint.

Watch the Florida Craigslist. Especially middle and southern Florida where a lot of retirees live.

It didn't need a repaint, the owners got tired of having it that metallic blue colour. Also since it spent almost all it's life in cali, there was very minimal clear coat peal by the sunroof, so they decided to repaint it to help resale value.

Thank you! I spent a good portion of almost 2 years finding one in this condition and this price. You just have to be patient and you'll find something worth buying for the price.

.
Then it wasn't well maintained, they didn't take care of the most important part the body and paint.

ABSOLUTELY. I practically stole mine for $700. Of course the lady thought the rack and pinion needed to be replaced when it was in reality just a bad connection to the PS solenoid, a $0.10 fix.

You need to get out of the rust belt to find clean cars though. After a living unending nightmare of a project with another vehicle from Akron, ohio, I couldn't believe how little rust was on this '93 LS400. The lady or whomever before her must have kept it in a heated garage, really (the lexus was used in Central KY area).

To get the nice cars, go south. If you have the means, get something from CA.

Welp, it had no dents before, it has no dents now. So a fresh coat of limo black doesn't hurt.

They are out there on craigslist... but probably not in your area...Texas and Oklahoma are good sources as well as Florida... Dallas CL has a few posted right now that look promising. Decide what you want and what's important to you and then start looking till someone posts what you want. Patience is the key here.

Little higher price than you were looking for but a nice example of a fairly clean 99 model.
