Nice and clean but it's not even the 93-94 model. I wonder how many oil changes the car has gone though. I know I wouldn't

NOT ME... I would not want to go thru all the problems the early models had.. 93 - 94 would work after you fixed the cluster... 95-2000 is the way to go..

Default 1990 Lexus LS400 for $40K

Lexus of Glendale here in Southern California just got in a 1990 LS400 with 3,305 miles. They're asking $40K for the car... A little insane in my opinion. It looks to be in great shape, but not worth the price. I could see someone paying maybe $15-20K for the car. Opinions?

The problem with this car for most people is that as soon as you start driving it the value plummets. Would have to be a collector that buys and never drives to possibly retain the value, and even that's speculation on the buyer's part. I think your $15-20K is the right price, and closer to $15.

Default 1990 Lexus LS400 for $40K

That's a neat car, but it's not worth anywhere near that money. Not a collector car, which is what they're trying to get for it.

To be that price it better have this.

All factory original with a max of 20 miles on the odometer
All options
Perfect body and paint, perfect did I say perfect? No scratches dents or touch ups.
Never ever sold to anyone and with the manufactures statement of origin
Window sticker still on the window
New car smell
Under belly perfect nothing screwed up from tying it on a truck, tire straps only!
Interior perfect
Only stored inside.

Then I would consider it.

The question is, Who would even ask for that kind of money on that, regardless of the condition. Yes it is a nice car and is maybe still in great running condition. But if you want to sell the car look at surrounding prices and what people are paying for the vehicles and price accordingly

Yeah and if you buy it, and drive it at all, even if it meets the specs I posted, you would loose huge. And I doubt it could be insured for the loss either, because they could only go by top blue book value for that year.

An unrealistic expectation but shoppers may come in to see this low miles wonder and pick up a current car or a sandwich. If they sell it great for the dealer.

You can get Celsior's from Japan with less then 20,000km for like 7000$ imported, I can't see the value in that car, but its neat that it exists!

I recently looked at 2 top dollar early LS400's that car lots have they also have a pretty steep price on them, I was hoping to see some good stuff for the 5k price tag, lowish miles yeah, but rust spots on the roof of one and
a cheapy repaint on the other lots of dirt in the paint and horrible masking job. The cheaper ones I've looked at are usually in better shape than the ones that are way up there in asking price.
