Question 94 LS 400 Service question

Hi,

Q1) How hard is it to change the spark plugs in my 94 LS? I have 78,000 mi on the original pugs. Where exactly are the Spk plugs located?

Q2) When changing the transmission fluid, is there a drain plug on the pan or due you have to remove the entire pan?

Thanks for your help!

Spark plugs are not that hard to replace. Rotor and cap is another story. If your going to replace the wires use OEM.

Trans oil removal
1) Remove drain plug to drain fluid. If transmission oil
strainer is to be changed, remove oil pan. Remove oil strainer and
gasket.
2) Clean transmission oil pan and replace pan gasket. Install
oil strainer and gasket. Reinstall transmission oil pan. Tighten
bolts. Install drain plug. With engine off, add new fluid through
dipstick hole.
3) Start engine and shift selector into all positions. Shift
selector back into "P" position. Check fluid level. Add fluid to bring
level up to COOL mark on dipstick.
4) Recheck fluid level when engine and transmission reaches
operating temperature of 158-176 F (70-80 C). Add fluid up to HOT
mark.

Default Changing Spark plugs

I take it the cap and rotor are not easy to change.
At 78,000 miles, do you think ithe cap and rotor are due for a repalcement? How often does the cap need changing?
Also,
Are the spark plug wires easy to change if the cap is hard to get to?

Thanks for your help!

You can replace the wires without having to replace the caps and rotors. At 78,000 it could go either way. They are good for 100,000. I changed mine at 95,000 and they needed replacing. If I had to do it over again I would just do it all at 90K with the timing belt. The rotors and caps are behind the cam covers and a few of the bolts can be a pain to get to. Also making sure the caps and rotors go back on straight is never fun for me. It wasn't that difficult, just a tight spot to work in without taking the radiator out.

It was 98K when I replaced my caps, rotors, wires, plugs and filters (inside and out). It was a long day for me. SpxChrome did you replace your timing belt and water pump yourself? katz just take your time.

Default 78,000 mile service

Thanks for your input.

I love this car. At 78,000 m this car rides as smooth as silk and has not given me any problems with the water pump or power steering pump like others I have read about. I suppose I'll have those items repalced at 100,000 mi when the timing belt is changed.

The only problem I'm having so far is the Air Bag Light is staying on. I tried to reset it and It went off but came back on after driving a few miles. Any ideas on this subject?

Also, I just need some clarfication on changing the Spk Plug Wires- If the Cap is so hard to get to, then I take it the wires will be also be difficult to change? If so, I might as well change the cap to. Right?

Thanks for all your help!

The wires and pluges are no problem. You can get to the cap to plug/unplug wires from it. Replacing the cap is a little work.
