Default Lexus LS400 idle RPM speed???

Hi,

What should a 1995 Lexus LS400 idle RPM speed be after it has warmed up after driving and then stopping? I just purchased a very nice low k's (169 k's), full service history Lexus LS400 and it runs like no other car I have ever driven, and I have driven well over 30, but I am not sure about the idle speed. It tends to idle at 400 RPM and sometimes lower. Is this normal and if not, is there any easy way to get it to the correct level? Here is a picture:

So yeah, it idles at 400 RPM. Haven't had an issue since. Never stalled so far but as I am new to the world of Lexus I thought I would ask you all. Is this normal? Well if not, what can I do to get it to the correct idle speed?

Thanks in advance.

It should idle around 7-750 when warmed up and in park. When warmed up and in drive I believe it should idle around 650. many of us have this low idle including me. No one has figured out why but it def has to do with the aging components.

Have you sent your car into to Lexus to get it checked out? Or a mechanic in general? It shouldn't be too difficult to fix should it? My car has low k's and full service history. I guess people don't want to pay Lexus premium prices maybe? Or does it not bother you? I have only owned my car for less than a month and it hasn't stalled or anything yet but I am willing to get it sorted if needed. I plan to keep this car for a long time. Thanks.

This is a known issue and Lexus will just try to change parts. Mine stalled a couple of times but that's cause it was misfiring. I cleaned the MAF sensor and checked the spark plugs. No problems since though. I've owned this car a long time so I know more about it then most of the techs at the dealership.

How much k's/miles has yours doen? Mine hasn't stalled yet either. Do you think I should just drive and enjoy it as is and not worry about it for now?? I sometimes tends to vibrate a little bit when it gets really low but hasn't stalled yet since and hopefully doesn't. *knock on woodgrain :P

That's almost exactly how mine is. You ever had it where is starts to vibrate or stall?

Mine has never stalled either. I also thought it was normal until I checked this site. I am still not sure it isn't. I tend to heard people on here saying it should idle at 650 RPM after it's warned up. Mine is around the same as yours so I don't know what to believe. Often mine idles at 400RPM. I haven't seen any definitive answers yet...

That is NOT the correct idle speed from the factory so there's no need to figure out who to believe. Like I said lots of owners have this issue with no detrimental effects but it is far from normal.

Default Ls400 1990 low idle issue

Hi, i am having the same problem. My car used to stall intermittently and i got it checked it gave me code 71 which is EGR system. I got it replaced, cleaned the MAF and also IACV but the idle stand at 600 and some times go to 575. I cnt figure out why the idle is low. I bought this car around 8 mnths ago and it never had this prblm before. Also the code 71 still comes on. 😞

Your car idles at 600? In drive when warmed up? If so, that is pretty good! Mine idles at 400rpm and lower in drive. It does 650 only in park.

Thanks.
