Default 1996 LS400 EGR questions?

I've had the code coming up that my EGR is misbehaving. It shows up as a check engine light. I replaced the EGR valve a couple years ago and even had it at a dealership and nothing could make the code go away. Recently , I was told it could be the EGR temperature sensor, not the valve itself. No one has ever brought this up. If anyone has run across this, could you share your experience. If it is the temperature sensor, how will replacing it improve my performance. Is it easy to do for a novice home machanic?

EGR issue is highly stressful. I had the problem with my EGR recently and got the whole system replaced with EGR modulator, EGR valve and Vacuum switching valve but the problem was still there, i replaced all the hoses as well but couldnt fix the issue. I went to another mechanic and he checked right infront of me. Try takng out a hose from EGR valve and apply vacuum to it if the engine stalls or dies then ur EGR is good and working but if it doesnt then the problem is before the EGR. Which could be your throttle body is not cleaned which is resulting in not the proper flow of air into EGR modulator. In mine one of thehose was stuck and was not passing any air to modulator so the mechanic cleaned it and since then no problem or codes. I suggest you to find an honest mechanic.

Just to correct - if EGR valve is good and your car stalls when vacuum is applied then the problm is before the EGR which can be dirty throttle body or hoes are stuck with carbon and if not then the problem could be the EGR pipe.

Do you think it could be the EGR Temperature sensor that's doing it or are they pretty much never the problem?

Thank you for your answer. I will try it and get back.

EGR temp hardly goes bad but u can try its around $137 from ebay. If that doesnt fix thn get ur throttl body cleaned really well and make sure to get a vacuum check on all the hoses attached to throttle body and egr system.
